? Records: JHU (5-1) ? FU (1-3)
? Location: Baltimore, MD ? Homewood Field
? The Short Story: Sophomore Miranda Ibello had a hand in seven goals for the 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team as the Blue Jays beat the visiting Furman Paladins, 15-5, on Sunday afternoon. Ibello's seven points were a game and career-high.
How it Happened
? Hopkins jumped on Furman early as senior Haley Schweizer took a pass from freshman Maggie Schneidereith and beat the Paladins' keeper over the left shoulder just 35 seconds in. Less than three minutes later, the Blue Jays led by two after Ibello converted a free position shot.
? Furman got on the board at 24:16 to make it 2-1. Paige Gamble dumped a pass to Ashley Trice in the slot, and she turned and scored over the right shoulder of senior Caroline Federico.
? The Blue Jays answered with five straight goals in a span of six minutes and 25 seconds. Sophomore Nicole DeMase started the run with a free position goal at 2:37 and freshman Lexi Souder followed with a high-to-low shot just 67 seconds later.
? Ibello found a cutting Alexis Maffucci in the middle of the fan for the first of her two at 19:24. Three minutes later, Ibello had her third straight assist with a feed to Schweizer in the left alley, who picked the far post. Junior Shannon Fitzgerald won the ensuing draw and went right to the cage, scoring on the run just 13 seconds after Schweizer.
? Hope Herline ended the Blue Jays' run with a free position goal at 12:02 to make it a 7-2 game.
? Hopkins came right back with three unanswered to push out to a 10-2 lead. It was DeMase who got things going again, scoring on a bouncer in the left alley off a nice feed from Ibello. Ibello was then on the receiving end for the Jays' ninth of the game as she took a pass from Souder and then beat the Furman keeper low at 6:50. Junior Maggie Friel capped the run, winning the draw and racing to the cage where she blew a shot home from about eight yards.
? Gamble had the final say of the half when she scored on the run from the right alley with 3:13 to play. The Blue Jays would take a 10-3 lead into the half.
? DeMase jump started the second-half scoring with her third of the day, with Ibello picking up her fifth assist of the afternoon, just 51 seconds in. Ten seconds later, Fitzgerald slam dunked a pass from Scheidereith to make it 12-3.
? Maffucci pushed the lead to 10 at the 25:56-mark scoring off Schneidereith's second straight helper. Schweizer then completed her hat trick as she picked up a loose ball in the fan, dodged through traffic and scored from the doorstep.
? Isabelle Walsh ended a long scoring drought for the Paladins when she took a pass from Abby Shields in the slot, turned and beat Federico over the top at 14:16. Sophie Brennan got a second straight goal for the visitors to make it a 14-5 game with 7:12 to play. Fitzgerald capped the scoring with a behind-the-back shot from the doorstep at 4:44.
