• The Short Story: The #25 Johns Hopkins volleyball team snapped its two-game losing streak as the Blue Jays defeated visiting McDaniel, 3-1 on Wednesday night at Goldfarb Gym.
How it Happened
SET 1
•The Green Terror opened the first set with a 4-2 lead before the Blue Jays went on a 10-0 run to take a 12-4 advantage. Nine of the ten points came on the serve of
Michelle Abt who had three aces during the run.
• A 6-0 run later in the set gave Hopkins set point at 24-11 but McDaniel scored the next three points to make the score 24-14. A service error by McDaniel gave the Blue Jays set point and a 25-14 set one victory.
SET 2
• A 4-0 JHU run which featured two more aces from Abt put the Blue Jays up 5-2 but McDaniel scored the next two points to make it a one-point set. A kill from
Louisa Kishton made the score 8-6 but the Green Terror tied the match with two straight points.
• A 6-2 run put Johns Hopkins up 19-12 and the Blue Jays continued to lead as a kill from
Eleni Panagopoulos gave JHU a 25-18 victory.
SET 3
•Johns Hopkins opened the set scoring three straight points before the Green Terror scored the next four to go up one. Another 4-0 McDaniel run gave the visitors an 8-4 lead in the set.
• JHU took a 13-12 lead as Hopkins scored four consecutive points capped by an ace from
Lauren Anthony.
• A 6-1 McDaniel run put the Green Terror up 19-15 and they would hold onto win the set by a 25-19 score.
SET 4
• With McDaniel leading 7-3 Johns Hopkins went on a 19-4 run to take a 22-11 lead.
• A kill from
Sasha Gorelik gave the Blue Jays a 23-14 advantage, but McDaniel scored three straight points to make the score 23-17. JHU scored two of the next three points, punctuated by a kill from Anthony to take set four 25-18 and claim the four-set win.
What it Means
• JHU is 23-19 all-time against McDaniel and has won the last four meetings.
Inside the Box Score
• Bliss and Kishton both recorded double-doubles in the match. Bliss finished with 13 kills and 10 digs while Kishton had 11 kills and 10 digs.
• Abt finished with 10 digs while
Esther Hong finished with a team-high 14.
