The Basics

• The Short Story: The #25 Johns Hopkins volleyball team dropped a four-set match against Mary Washington on the opening day of the Wid Guisler Invitational on the campus of Juniata. 

How it Happened

SET 1
Hopkins took a 6-4 advantage over the Eagles on a Lauren Anthony kill but Mary Washington scored the next two points to tie the match.
• The Blue Jays went up 21-19 on a kill from Michelle Abt, but the Eagles went on a 6-0 run to win the set 25-21.

SET 2
A 4-1 Blue Jay run gave Hopkins a 15-9 lead and forced Mary Washington to call a timeout.
• Johns Hopkins had match point at 24-12 but the Eagles went on a 5-0 run to make the score 24-17. A kill Anthony ended the Eagles run and gave JHU a 25-18 set win.

SET 3
The Blue Jays had a 6-5 lead in the set before Mary Washington went on a 7-0 run to take a 12-6 lead.
• JHU slowly began to chip away, and an ace by Sarah Khan tied the match at 16. Hopkins then scored the next three points to take a 19-16 lead.
• Mary Washington scored three-straight points to tie the match at 19 but JHU scored the next two points to take a 21-19 lead.
• Back-to-back kills from Louisa Kishton gave the Blue Jays 23-21 advantage, however, the Eagles scored five of the next six points to win the set 26-24.

SET 4
With the set tied at 10, Johns Hopkins scored three consecutive points to take a 13-10 lead.
• An 8-2 run by the Eagles gave them an 18-15, however, the Blue Jays came back and an error by Mary Washington tied the match at 20.
• Mary Washington then scored the next five points to win the set 25-20.

What it Means
• Hopkins is now 6-12 against the Eagles.

Inside the Box Score
• Bliss led the Blue Jays with 12 kills while Kishton and Abt each finished with 10. Kishton also recorded 12 digs in the match.
Esther Hong had a team-high 16 digs while Khan finished the match with 11.
Nicole Hada recorded 42 assists in the match.

Up Next
• The Blue Jays will return to action tomorrow for day two of the Wid Guisler Invitational as JHU will take on #7 Juniata at 1pm followed by Eastern at 3pm.
