Volleyball Drops Matches to #7 Juniata and Eastern

Simone Bliss led Hopkins in kills in both matches

JUNIATA MATCH

The Basics
 
• Score: Hopkins – 0, Juniata – 3 (25-15, 25-18, 25-22)
• Records: #25 JHU (17-5) • #7 Juniata (20-3)
• Location: Huntingdon, PA • Memorial Gym (Wid Guisler Invitational)
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins volleyball team fell in straight sets to #7 Juniata on the road on Saturday afternoon at the Wid Guisler Invitational.

How it Happened

SET 1
• 
Juniata got out to a quick 10-4 lead in the first set which featured a 5-0 run.
• A 3-0 run by Hopkins got to Blue Jays to within five at 16-11, but another 5-0 run by the Eagles in the set gave them set point at 24-13.
• A kill from Lauren Anthony stopped the Juniata run and an attacking error made the score 24-15, but Juniata secured the set one victory on an error.

SET 2
• Louisa Kishton opened the second set with an ace as the Blue Jays pulled out to a 4-2 lead but the Eagles scored four of the next five points to take a 6-5 lead.
• Juniata went up 9-6, however, the Blue Jays scored five of the next six points to take an 11-10 lead.
• A 3-0 run from Juniata later in the set gave the home team a 17-14 lead and another 3-0 run gave them a 22-16 advantage.
• Back-to-back kills from Kishton and Morgan Wu made the score 22-18, but Juniata scored the next three points to win the set 25-18.

SET 3
• 
Juniata took a 10-5 lead in the set but the Blue Jays got to within three as JHU took advantage of a Juniata attacking error to make the score 13-10.
• Trailing 21-14 Johns Hopkins went on a 6-1 run to pull to within two at 22-20. Juniata took advantage of a JHU attacking error to take a three-point lead, but back-to-back Eagle errors made the score 23-22.
• Juniata then used a kill by Morgan Edwards and an ace from Makenna Hallager to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.

What it Means
• The Blue Jays are 1-8 all-time against the Eagles and the teams have never played a five-set match.

Inside the Box Score
• Simone Bliss led Hopkins with 12 kills while Anthony finished with eight.
• Kishton had a team-high 12 digs while Hada finished with 25 assists.


EASTERN MATCH

The Basics 
• Score: #25 JHU – 0, Eastern – 3 (25-23, 25-20, 25-17)
• Records: #25 JHU (17-6) • Eastern (20-5)
• Location: Huntingdon, PA • Memorial Gym (Wid Guisler Invitational)
• The Short Story: The Blue Jay volleyball team dropped a tough three-set match to Eastern on Saturday afternoon at the Wid Guisler Invitational.

How it Happened

SET 1
• With the match tied at five, the Eagles went on a 5-0 run to take a 10-5 lead.
• JHU got to within one as the Blue Jays went on a 6-2 run to make the score 12-11.
• Kills from Bliss and Micaelle Larrieux along with an Eastern error tied the match at 15 and the Blue Jays scored four of the next six points to take a 19-17 lead.
• Sasha Gorelik gave Hopkins a 22-20 advantage, however, Eastern went on a 5-1 run to win the set 25-23.

SET 2
•
A 6-2 run by Eastern put the Eagles up 15-11 but an attacking error and back-to-back aces from Hada got JHU to within one at 15-14.
• Eastern then went on a 3-0 run to go on top by four at 18-14 but a kill from Bliss ended the run. The Eagles then scored the next four points to pull ahead 22-15.
•  With the Eagles needing one more point to take the set, the Blue Jays went on a 3-0 run to pull to within four, but Sarah Roberts registered a kill to seal the set win.

SET 3
• A 5-0 Eastern run gave the Eagles a 6-2 advantage in set three, but a kill from Abt ended the run and an attack error by Eastern pulled Johns Hopkins to within two at 6-4.
• With the Blue Jays trailing 12-6, JHU went on a 5-0 run to make it a one-point set.
• Out of an Eastern timeout, the Eagles outscored the Blue Jays 5-2 to go up 17-13.
• The Eagles ended the set on an 8-3 run to take the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

What it Means
• Johns Hopkins is now 3-9 all-time against Eastern.

Inside the Box Score
• Bliss led JHU with 12 kills while Larrieux had eight.
• Hada finished the match with 17 assists while Sarah Khan had a team-high 13 digs.
• Kishton was named  all-tournament team.
