• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins volleyball dropped the first set of the match, but the Blue Jays rallied and won the next three as they defeated Gettysburg on Wednesday night at Goldfarb Gym.
How it Happened
SET 1
• The Bullets took a 5-3 lead in the opening set but three straight Blue Jay points gave the home team a 6-5 advantage.
• With the set tied at 11, Hopkins scored three-straight points to take a 14-11 lead, but the Bullets tied the set back up with a 3-0 run of their own.
• A 6-2 run by the visitors gave them a 21-19 lead and forced a Hopkins timeout. The Blue Jays scored the next two points out of the timeout to tie the match, but Gettysburg scored four of the next five to win the set 25-22.
SET 2
• Back-to-back aces
by Michelle Abt and a kill from
Simone Bliss put the Blue Jays ahead 7-2 in the set as the Blue Jays pulled away to a 10-point advantage at 13-3 off a kill from
Louisa Kishton.
• A 6-2 run by Gettysburg made the score 21-16, but three-straight kills from Kishton and a kill from Abt off a
Nicole Hada set gave Hopkins the 25-16 victory in the set.
SET 3
• Hopkins once again got off to a quick start taking a 7-2 lead but a 4-1 run by Gettysburg quickly made the score 8-6.
• The Bullets continued to hang around and an 8-2 run put them ahead 18-16.
• Now it was JHU's turn to come back as the Blue Jays scored four of the next six points to tie the match at 20.
• The teams exchanged 2-0 runs and after Gettysburg took a 23-22 lead, Hopkins rallied to score the next three points as a service ace from
Morgan Wu sealed the 25-23 set victory.
SET 4
• Once again the Blue Jays took a 7-2 lead in the set and eventually doubled-up the Bullets at 12-6.
• A 7-2 run from Gettysburg made the score 20-17, however, Hopkins scored five of the next six capped by a kill from
Micaelle Larrieux to win the set 25-18 and the match, 3-1.
What it Means
• The Blue Jays have qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament for the ninth consecutive season. Hopkins will be either the one or two seed.
• JHU is now 16-29 against the Bullets and has won the last 10 meetings.
Inside the Box Score
• Kishton finished with 20 kills while Bliss recorded her 18th straight game with double-digit kills as she registered 12 kills in the match.
•
Esther Hong led Hopkins with 15 digs while Hada had 14 and
Sarah Khan had 13. Hada also added a team-leading 44 assists.
• Abt recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. She also led the team with three aces.

• The Blue Jays will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, October 27th as they will head to Franklin & Marshall for a 1 pm match. The winner of the match will host the Centennial Conference Tournament as the top seed.
