Johns Hopkins Shuts Out Bryn Mawr, 2-0, in Centennial Opener

Blue Jays Get Goals from McErlean and Corvi

The Basics
• Score: #17 Johns Hopkins-2, Bryn Mawr-0
• Records: JHU (4-0, 1-0 CC) • BMC (4-2, 0-1 CC)
• Location: Bryn Mawr, PA • Applebee Field
• The Short Story: The 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey used a pair of second half goals to shutout host Bryn Mawr, 2-0, on Saturday in both teams' Centennial Conference opener.

How it Happened
• After a scoreless first half that saw the teams combine for just seven shots, Hopkins wasted little time in opening the scoring in the second half. The Blue Jays earned a corner just two minutes into the half and sophomore Seema Sajjan inserted it to junior Katie McErlean. She collected the pass and fired a shot into the center of the cage to make it 1-0.
• Hopkins added an insurance goal 21 minutes later to push its lead to 2-0. After a scramble in front of the Owls' cage, sophomore Michaela Corvi lifted a shot over goalie Maggie Titus and into the cage.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 25-0-1 all-time against Bryn Mawr and has shutout the Owls in each of the last four meetings.
• The Blue Jays' 4-0 start is the best since the 2009 squad that also started out 4-0.

Inside the Box Score
• Corvi's goal was her team-best third of the season, matching her total from a year ago. McErlean's goal was her first of the season and six different Blue Jays have scored at least once this season.
• Junior Jodie Baris made three saves to earn her second shutout of the season. Titus finished with one save in the loss. Titus also got a pair of defensive saves from her teammates to help hold the Blue Jays to two goals.
• Hopkins outshot Bryn Mawr, 10-4, but the host Owls had a 9-7 advantage in corners.

Up Next
• Hopkins is back at Homewood Field on Wednesday, September 19 to take on sixth-ranked Salisbury. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.
