• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins volleyball team played its first match of the season at home, and the Blue Jays gave the home crowd a 3-0 win over visiting Washington College.
How it Happened
SET 1
• The two teams went back-and-forth during the early portions of the opening set and a kill from
Micaelle Larrieux gave the Blue Jays a 6-4 lead.
• A kill from Kaitlyn Marino tied the match at seven, but
Michelle Abt put Hopkins right back in the lead.
• Washington College tied the match once again as the teams went back-and-forth in the very competitive opening set.
• Abt put the Blue Jays ahead 22-18 with a kill, however, WC went on a 3-0 run to get to within one. Another kill from Abt put JHU up two, but a Hopkins error made the score 23-22.
• Back-to-back kills from
Simone Bliss sealed the first set victory for Hopkins, 25-23.
SET 2
• After some back-and-forth early in the set, Hopkins was able to take a nine-point lead on consecutive kills from
Eleni Panagopoulos.
• The Shorewomen took advantage of two Blue Jay errors to get to within 24-17, but Larrieux sealed the set with a kill as JHU won set two, 25-18.
SET 3
• Once again neither team was able to get much going early in the set as the largest lead was a three-point advantage from the Blue Jays at 7-5.
• Washington College tied up the set at 10 and the two teams exchanged points to tie the match at 11.
• The Blue Jays scored four of the next five points to pull ahead 15-12 and force a WC timeout.
• Out of the timeout the Shorewomen scored four of the next five points to pull even at 16. The Blue Jays responded with a 4-0 run to make the score 20-16.
• The Blue Jays scored five of the next nine points capped by kills from Bliss and
Morgan Wu to take the set, 25-20, and complete the sweep.
What it Means
• Johns Hopkins has now won 11-straight matches to open the season and the Blue Jays have won their last 25 Centennial Conference regular season matches.
• JHU improves to 35-7 against the Shorewomen and has won the last 29 meetings.
Inside the Box Score
• Bliss led JHU with 14 kills and added six digs.

Sarah Khan finished with a team-high 11 digs and 23 assists.
• As a team, Hopkins had eight blocks and finished with a hitting percentage of .302 while the Shorewomen had six blocks and hit .108 in the match.
