The Short Story: Despite leading 2-1 in the second half, #5 Johns Hopkins fell to Gettysburg 3-2 in OT on Wednesday night.
How it Happened
•
Emily Maheras got the scoring started in the 20
th minute, heading in a corner kick from
Alex Damron. The goal was Maheras' team-leading 11
th of the season.
• Gettysburg was able to tie things up at 1-1 in the 35
th minute.
Caitlin Hendricks was pulled out of the net trying to make a play on the ball, but Erika Muskus got to in first and slotted it home for her 10
th goal of the season.
• The Blue Jays took the lead early in the second half, as
Rachel Jackson scored her ninth goal of the season off an assist from Maheras in the 52
nd minute.
• Less than a minute later, Gettysburg tied things up once again. Isabel Klatt received a pass from Muskus and put home her third goal of the year to make it 2-2 in the 53
rd minute.
• After ending regulation tied at two, Charlotte Cenatiempo was able to get past a Blue Jay defender after receiving a long ball from Emma Bedell. Cenatiempo fended off another Blue Jay and was able to score the game-winner in the 98
th minute to give Gettysburg a 3-2 victory.
What it Means
• Johns Hopkins has lost their first contest since September 4
th against Messiah.
• The loss drops JHU into a tie for fourth-place with McDaniel in the Centennial Conference standings with 18 points.
• The Blue Jays can clinch the #2 seed with a win on Saturday & ties/losses from Haverford and Gettysburg.
