Schneidereith Leads Johns Hopkins to 17-11 win over Saint Joseph's

The Basics
• Score: #17 Johns Hopkins-17, Saint Joseph's-11
• Records: JHU (5-1) • SJU (2-3)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: Junior Maggie Schneidereith scored six goals to lead the 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team to a 17-11 win over visiting Saint Joseph's on a blustery day at Homewood Field.

How it Happened
• Hopkins scored just 14 seconds in and before the game was five minutes old, the Blue Jays held a 4-0 lead. By the midway point of the first half, JHU led 7-0.
• Junior Mackenzie Heldberg was on the receiving end of some crisp Blue Jay passing when she finished a pass from sophomore Aurora Cordingley to open the scoring. Redshirt senior Ellie McNulty doubled the Blue Jays lead when she scored in traffic off a feed from Schneidereith at the 28:31-mark. Just 10 seconds later Schneidereith scored the first of three straight goals for a natural hat trick – in a span of nine minutes and 40 seconds.
• Cordingley made it a six-goal lead with 17:37 to play in the half, scoring on a quick-stick shot from the doorstep. Schneidereith capped the opening run when she dodged from behind, had the ball checked away, caught it and then beat Amber Weedon in stride.
• The Hawks finally got on the board with a Sam McGee goal at 13:30, sparking a run of three goals in just 71 seconds as the visitors cut the deficit to four. The Blue Jays answered with goals from Cordingley and Heldberg, just 37 seconds apart, to push their lead to 9-3 at the half.
• The teams traded goals over the opening seven and a half minutes and Hopkins led 12-5. Bridget Cerciello scored off the dodge at 20:31 to spark a quick three-goal spurt as Saint Joseph's pulled within four with 16:58 to go. McNulty ended the run with a free position goal, but just 42 seconds later, Sophia Kolkka scored on a show to the bottom right corner and it was 13-9.
• Heldberg pushed the lead to five when she spun on her defender and blew a shot top-shelf at the 13:24-mark. But Hayley Sabol answered with an advantage goal 82 seconds later to make it a 14-10 game. Schneidereith responded with back-to-back goals, with the second coming off a Heldberg caused turnover in the midfield, and Hopkins led 16-10 with 6:27 to play. Cerciello scored off the split dodge four minutes later to pull the Hawks back within four, but a Lexi Souder free position goal accounted for the 17-11 final.
