Bisignani Named to Google Cloud Academic All-District Team

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins women's swimming sophomore Mikayla Bisignani has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA. She is the 16th women's swimmer in school history to earn the honor and just the third to do so as a sophomore.
 
The District II region includes Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia. The be nominated for the Google Cloud Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
 
The Women's At-Large Team consists of athletes from the following sports: beach volleyball, bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo. Chen now moves on to the national ballot, with the Google Cloud Academic All-America teams set to be announced on June 19.
 
Bisignani is majoring in molecular and cellular biology and psychology and boasts a 4.00 cumulative GPA. A two-time qualifier for the NCAA Swimming Championships, she received the NCAA Elite 90 Award at this year's championship. She finished in fourth place in the 200 Free Relay in 2019 to earn First Team All-America honors. Bisignani is also a member of the Blue Jay outdoor track and field team. She is a two-time Centennial Conference Champion in the discus and qualified for the NCAAs in the event.
 
Bisignani is a research assistant in the Laboratory for Child Development at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Two summers ago, she was a technical intern at Latrobe Hospital and has spent the past 18 months conducting an independent project in the Protein Engineering and Biochemistry Lab at JHU. In addition, Bisignani is a volunteer caregiver for a patient with MS and volunteers in the ER at Mercy Medical Center.  She is also a Hop Help Tutor and Academic Support Tutor as well as a Student-Athlete Mentor. She is a member of the JHU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as the social media co-chair of the Pre-Health Student Advisory Board. Bisignani also works in the Athletic Center front office and is a member of the Game Operations staff.
