Maya Hammonds and Caelyn Reilly Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

JHU Has Now Has 27 All-District Honorees

BALTIMORE, MD – Senior Maya Hammonds and junior Caelyn Reilly of the Johns Hopkins women's track & field and cross country teams were voted to the 2018-19 Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America All-District II Team it was announced today.
 
Hammonds earns her second all-district honor as she also earned the honor last season while Reilly earns her first all-district honor. The pair now move onto the national ballot with the Google Cloud Academic All-America Teams slated to be announced on June 25. Johns Hopkins has now placed 27 student-athletes on the all-district teams and the Blue Jays have had at least two athletes earn all-district honors in seven straight seasons.
 
The District II region includes Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average.
 
Hammonds earned All-American honors in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships this year. She was the national runner-up during the indoor season and notched a sixth-place finish during the outdoor campaign. The New Hartford, NY native was named the Mideast Region Field Performer of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor campaigns and she was also named the Centennial Conference's Field Athlete of the Year for the indoor season and the Track Athlete of the Year for the outdoor campaign. She won five events at the conference championship meet in May. Off the track, Hammonds sports a 3.70 GPA as a molecular and cellular biology major and is a lifeguard at JHU. She is also a member of Alpha Phi Omega.
 
Reilly earned All-America honors in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter run at this year's NCAA Outdoor Championship as she was the national-runner up in the 10K and finished fourth in the 5k. She was also an All-American in the 5k during the indoor season as she earned a fourth-place finish in the event. Reilly was also the region's track athlete of the year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The junior also excelled on the cross country course as she earned All-American honors with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships which saw the Blue Jays finish second as a team. Reilly has a 3.43 GPA with applied math & statistics and public major and has been a member of the Hopkins tutorial project and done community outreach in Baltimore.
