BALTIMORE, MD – Fresh off its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Semifinals, the Johns Hopkins football team is ranked fifth by both
Street & Smith's and
Lindy's in each publication's Division III Preseason Top 25. In addition to the team rankings, the Blue Jays also placed senior quarterback
David Tammaro and senior offensive linemen
Joe Figueroa on the Preseason All-America Team in
Lindy's. Both Tammaro and Figueroa were named to the second team.

Johns Hopkins posted a 12-2 record, won a 10th consecutive Centennial Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Playoffs for the eighth consecutive year in 2018. In the playoffs, the Blue Jays topped MIT (49-0), Frostburg St. (58-27) and RPI (37-14) to advance to the national semifinals for the first time in school history. There, the Blue Jays fell at perennial power Mount Union, 28-20, and finished the season ranked fifth nationally by both the AFCA and D3football.com.

Tammaro and Figueroa led a Johns Hopkins offense that averaged 45.8 points and 550.3 yards per game last season and scored 35 or more points in 12 of the team's 14 games.

A Second Team D3football.com All-American last season, Tammaro was the only Division III quarterback in the nation to throw for more than 4,000 yards in 2018 as he was 303-of-451 for 4,111 yards with 35 touchdowns against seven interceptions. His marks for attempts, completions and yards are all Johns Hopkins single-season records, while his 35 touchdown passes tied the JHU single-season record.

The leader of the Blue Jay offensive line, Figueroa was a Second Team AP Little American as a junior. He also earned First Team All-Centennial and Second Team D3football.com All-South honors as JHU averaged more than 200 yards rushing and 300 yards passing for the first time in school history.

Johns Hopkins will open the 2019 season on Thursday, September 5 when the Blue Jays travel to Randolph-Macon. The game against the Yellow Jackets, who advanced to the second round of the 2018 NCAA Playoffs, is one of five national Division III games listed in Lindy's as games to watch
