• The Short Story: After dropping the first set, Hopkins rebounded to knock off host Stevens Tech in four sets in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
How it Happened
SET ONE
• Stevens controlled the opening frame the start, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead that they would hold for the remainder of the set.
•
Hannah Korslund strung together four straight points from the service line to cut the lead to 8-7, but that was as close as Hopkins would get.
• Kristen Edmiston led the way for Stevens with four first set kills and a pair of blocks.
SET TWO
• Hopkins wasted little time jumping in front in the second set, scoring the first seven points on the back of
Natalie Aston's serve.
• The Jays would lead by as many as 12 in the second stanza and increased their hitting percentage from .100 in the opening set, to .357 in the second.
• Sophomore
Lauren Anthony's first kill of the afternoon came on set point and gave Hopkins a 25-12 win to even the match at one set apiece.
SET THREE
• JHU grabbed an early 8-4 advantage in the critical third set.
• Back-to-back kills from Bliss gave Hopkins a 15-8 lead; the seven-point advantage would be the largest of the third set for the Jays until pulling away for a 25-16 win.
•
Louisa Kishton paced Hopkins with five kills in the set.
SET FOUR
• The Blue Jays would dominate the fourth set from the start. Sophomore
Eleni Panagopoulos notched three kills in the first six points to give Hopkins the early advantage.
• Bliss' third ace of the day gave Hopkins match point at 24-8, before a Stevens error ultimately won the match for the Jays.
What it Means
• Hopkins has won each of the two meetings between the two programs, after defeating Stevens in four sets a season ago.
• It marks the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Blue Jays have won their first two matches of the season.
