• The Short Story: Hopkins handed Virginia Wesleyan its first loss of 2019, sweeping the Marlins in straight sets to open a three-match weekend in Fredericksburg.
How it Happened
SET ONE
• Virginia Wesleyan raced out to an early lead before a 5-0 Hopkins run gave the Jays a 10-7 lead that they wouldn't relinquish in the first frame.
• Hopkins hit a staggering .462 in the first set, its highest single-set hitting percentage of the season. On the other hand, the Marlins hit at a .067 clip in the opening set.
• An
Eleni Panagopoulos ace gave the Blue Jays set point at 24-14, and Hopkins took a one set to nothing lead following a Haley Sutton setting error on set point.
SET TWO
• Unlike the opening set, Hopkins jumped out in front to start the second, scoring the first four points of the set.
• The Jays would lead by as many as seven, but a late rally from Virginia Wesleyan drew the score to 21-18.
• Senior
Louisa Kishton closed out the second set for Hopkins with one of her four second-set kills.
SET THREE
• After exchanging the first four points of set three, Hopkins saw back-to-back kills from Kishton give the Jays a 5-3 lead. They would not trail at any point in the game.
• The Marlins cut the lead to 20-19 following a
Simone Bliss attacking error. The junior redeemed herself with a kill on the ensuing point to maintain the Blue Jay lead.
• Senior
Hannah Korslund notched a kill to give the Jays a 25-22 third-set victory and move Hopkins to 5-0 on the year.
Inside the Box Score
• Both Kishton (17 kills) and Bliss (11 kills) each recorded double-digit kills. The tandem has each had at least ten kills in all five matches this season.
• Kishton's .548 hitting percentage was the highest of any Blue Jay this season.

Morgan Wu tallied 13 digs, marking the second straight match the junior has recorded double-digit digs.
