• The Short Story: Hopkins cruised to a straight-set win over Washington & Lee before knocking off the host Eagles in four sets to sweep the Mary Washington Classic and move to 7-0 on the year.

How it Happened – Match One

SET ONE
• Hopkins raced out to a 9-2 advantage in the opening set against Washington & Lee. Seven of the Nine Blue Jay points came off of errors from the Generals.
• However, a slew of attacking errors from the Jays allowed W&L to rebound, taking a 17-16 lead in the latter portion of the opening game.
• A kill from Louisa Kishton evened the set at 17-17, and sophomore Eleni Panagopolous followed with an ace to retake an 18-17 Hopkins lead.
• Lauren Anthony tallied back-to-back kills to give the Jays set-point at 24-20 before Natalie Aston closed things out with one of her two aces in the first set.

SET TWO
• After hitting at just a .042 percentage in the first set, the Blue Jays recovered nicely in the second, improving to a .355 clip in the following game. The attacking woes would continue for the Generals, as they recorded negative hitting percentages in all three sets.
• With Hopkins leading 6-3 early in the second, the Jays strung together eight-straight points on the heels of Kishton's serve to balloon the lead to 14-3.
• This time, Hopkins was able to sustain its advantage, and a pair of Kishton kills closed out set two, 25-12 for the Jays.

SET THREE
• Panagopolous poured in service aces on three consecutive swings early in the third to open up a 6-2 Hopkins lead.
• The lead would continue to grow from there, with consecutive points from junior Simone Bliss extending the lead to 15-5 shortly after.
• Hopkins finished off its first opponent of Saturday with a Bliss kill to take set three, 25-11.

How it Happened – Match Two

SET ONE
• Looking to keep its undefeated season alive and taking on a school in Mary Washington that head coach Matt Troy had spent the prior six seasons with, Hopkins came out with a vengeance, scoring six of the first eight points in the match.
• Consecutive kills from Simone Bliss extended the Blue Jay lead to 14-9, followed by a Natalie Aston service ace that would expand the lead.
• Hopkins would never trail in the opening game, scoring a 25-15 win after a pair of Mary Washington attacking errors concluded the first.

SET TWO
• Eleni Panagopoulos tallied a pair of kills to give Hopkins an early 6-2 advantage in the second frame.
• Mary Washington would claw their way back into the match, running off a 5-0 run to give the Eagles their first lead of the match at 12-10.
• A 3-0 run from Hopkins would regain an 18-16 advantage for the visitors, but a late rally from Mary Washington evened the match at one set apiece.

SET THREE
• The quest for three consecutive sweeps was lost for the Jays after dropping the second set, but they would bounce right back in the third, jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead following one of Aston's two aces in the match.
• Mary Washington would fight back to even the set on multiple occasions until a Bliss kill capped a 4-0 run for the Jays forcing an Eagle timeout at 10-6. Kishton would then make it 11-6 with a kill of her own out of the timeout.
• The rout was on from there, as the Jays took the third set 25-12.

SET FOUR
• Morgan Wu helped break open a tight fourth set with three straight points from the service line, including a pair of aces to give Hopkins a 10-6 lead.
• That lead proved to be all that the Jays needed, helped by eight Mary Washington errors in the third set. In fact, the Eagles handed Hopkins 16 points on errors over the third and fourth sets, compared to just eight combined the first two frames.
• A lopsided fourth set concluded with a 25-14 Hopkins victory.

What it Means
• Hopkins has now defeated Washingotn & Lee in all four of the meetings between the two sides, including each of the past three seasons.
• It was the eighth meeting all-time between Hopkins and Mary Washington, with the Blue Jays now leading the all-time series 5-3.
• Natalie Aston was named the Most Valuable Player of the UMW Classic. She finished the three-match weekend with 113 assists, 22 digs and five service aces.
