- The Johns Hopkins Cross Country teams continue the 2019 season as they travel to Bronx, NY to take part in the Iona Meet of Champions on Friday morning . The men's race begins at 10 a.m. and is an 8K race while the women follow at 10:45 a.m. with a 5K competition.
Both the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams opened up the 2019 campaign with outstanding performances, sweeping the field at the Mount St. Mary's Duals on August 30
th.
The Blue Jay women finished 7-0 in the dual meet, just edging out Georgetown 28-29 to complete the sweep. Johns Hopkins defeated the other six teams in the meet by at least 19 points. Despite some runners battling some minor ailments, the Blue Jays placed seven runners in the top-20 at the event. Junior, Therese Olshanski, a native of Mountain Lakes, NJ., was the top finisher, placing second with a 5K time of 18:16.53. Samantha Levy (4
th) and Rebecca Grusby (6
th) earned top-10 finishes for the Blue Jays.
Johns Hopkins dominated the men's event, placing an outstanding 10 runners in the top-15. The men defeated the six other teams competing, handedly, winning every matchup by at least 24 points. Senior,
Andrew King, led the way for the Blue Jays, running the course in 15:31.93, picking up the win and also Centennial Conference Runner of the Week honors. Jared Pangallozi (3
rd) and
Sean Laidlaw (5
th) earned top-five finishes for the Hopkins men.
Both Men's and Women's Cross Country teams find themselves ranked inside the top-10 of the USTFCCCA national rankings. The women came in at number two in the Week One Poll while the men moved up a spot from the preseason poll to number nine.
