How it Happened

The Blue Jays earned a hard-fought comeback victory on the road at Washington College on Saturday evening. Johns Hopkins trailed at the end of each of the first three quarters and for a total of 25 minutes in the contest before coming away victorious.

Trailing 27-23 after the break, the Blue Jays outscored the Shorewomen 30-20 in the second half, shooting 15-18 from the charity stripe after halftime.

With 4:08 to play in the third quarter, Olivia Levin hit a triple to give Washington College a 37-32 lead. The Blue Jays cut it to 39-37 after a Diarra Oden jumper with 36 seconds left in the period, but Andrea Prestianne followed with a jumper of her own with less than 10 seconds remaining. Emily Howie pulled up for three and was fouled, drilling all three free throws with less than a second left to pull the Blue Jays within one heading to the fourth.

Kristin Ralston converted a layup, her first career basket, 49 seconds into the fourth to give Johns Hopkins their first lead since early in the second. Taylor Samuels gave Washington College the lead once more at the 7:49 mark before Oden hit a triple to put the Blue Jays up 45-43. JHU remained in the lead for the final 7:32, not allowing the Shorewomen to get it closer than within two. Hopkins made five free throws over the final 2:27 to ice away a 53-47 victory.
