How it Happened
Johns Hopkins outscored the Diplomats 28-18 in the second half, to pull out a 58-47 victory over Franklin & Marshall, their third consecutive win. Nine different players scored for the Blue Jays on Wednesday night.
Emily Howie hit a triple with less than 10 seconds left in the first half, sending the Blue Jays into the locker room with a 30-29 lead and sparking an 11-0 run into the middle of the third quarter. Hopkins held F&M scoreless for the first 5:15 of the third quarter, getting three-pointers from
Lyndsey Hoyd and
Diarra Oden while adding in a jumper from
Halie Egan to gain a 38-29 lead. Alisyn Narracci ended the scoring run with a pair of free throws at the 4:45 mark in the third, but the Diplomats never truly got back into the ball game.Â
JHU led by as many as 14 after
Jess Sweeney converted a layup after a feed from
Elise Moore with 4:31 remaining in the contest. The lead never dipped lower than 10 in the final six minutes of the contests, allowing Hopkins to comfortably pull away with the win.Â
Â
The game kicked off in a high-scoring fashion, as both teams shot better than 46 percent from the field in the first quarter. F&M led 16-12 with less than two minutes to play in the opening period, but Moore scored her sixth points of the quarter with 1:23 remaining to cut it to two and Oden tied the game at 16-16 with 47 seconds remaining in the first.Â
Â
It was more of the same back-and-forth in the second as neither team led by more than three points.
Kristin Ralston scored off an assist from Egan at the 6:06 mark to give Hopkins their first lead since the 8:02 mark of the first. Sarosha Parsons retook the lead for the Diplomats late in the quarter before the Howie three-pointer put Hopkins back on top.Â
