How it Happened

The Muhlenberg Mules used big scoring efforts in the first and third quarters to pick up a road victory at Johns Hopkins on Saturday evening. Margaux Eripret scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Mules in the victory.

One of the best defensive teams in the country, the Blue Jays were stellar defensively in the second and fourth quarters, holding Muhlenberg to just seven points in each period. The defensive effort allowed Hopkins to chip away, cutting a nine-point deficit after one quarter to five at the break.

Leading 11-8 with 3:36 to play in the first quarter, the Mules ripped off a 7-0 run to take an 18-10 lead. Mikaela McGarvey hit a three-pointer with 18 seconds left in the period to take a 21-12 lead at the end of the first. The Blue Jays cut it to four twice in the second period, making it 25-21 after a Maggie Wodicka layup. JHU went into the locker room trailing 28-23 after a pair of Emily Howie free throws in the final 10 seconds.

Diarra Oden hit a bucket with 6:01 left in the third quarter, cutting the Muhlenberg lead to three. The Mules proceeded to go on a 14-0 run to end the period, taking a 46-29 lead into the fourth. The Blue Jays cut it to 10 early in the fourth, but were never able to chip away any further, ultimately falling by 11.
