How it Happened
        The 11
th-ranked Penn women's lacrosse team used a 6-0 run that took just over three minutes to turn an early 2-1 deficit into a 7-2 lead and the Quakers held off a spirited rally by visiting Johns Hopkins in what became a 15-12 victory Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Blue Jays had the early one-goal lead after back-to-back goals from
Mackenzie Heldberg, but the Quakers answered with the six-goal run that began with a Taylyn Stadley goal 46 seconds after Heldberg's second strike and ended with a Chloe Hunter goal just over three miuntes later. The run included two goals from both Stadley and Caitlin Cook and a pair of free-position goals.
Â
The Blue Jays chipped away and were within 8-6 after a 4-1 spurt that was bookended by two goals from freshman
Carly Steinlauf. Another Cook tally for Penn halted the Blue Jay run, but Steinlauf stuck again with 2:12 on the first-half clock off a feed from junior
Aurora Cordingley and Cordingley made it a one-goal game at 9-8 eight seconds before halftime with a free position goal of her own.
Â
A more defensive second half that included just 10 combined goals saw the Quakers build the 9-8 halftime lead to three at 11-8 with half-opening tallies by Erin Barry and Stadley, but a
Claire Mills goal and the fourth of Steinlauf's four on the day made it 11-10 with just over 21 mintues remaining.
Â
The teams traded the next four goals with Penn twice pushing the lead to two at 12-10 and 13-11 before a
Bailey Cheetham free position goal for Johns Hopkins with 12:44 made it 13-12.
Â
That would be as close as the Blue Jays would get as a Michaela McMahon free position goal just 71 seconds after Cheetham's gave Penn a 14-12 lead and Zoe Belodeau added the insurance goal with 4:26 to play.
Â

• Ten of Penn's 15 goals came from Cook (4), Stadley (3) and Belodeau (3).
•
