Bisignani Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins women's swimming junior Mikayla Bisignani has been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom.
 
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, be a sophomore or above and a starter or significant reserve. Bisignani will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot with the Academic All-America Teams set to be announced on June 17. The At-Large Program includes athletes from the following sports: beach volleyball, bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.
 
The Johns Hopkins women's program has now produced 17 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections since 2001, with 12 of those selections coming since 2011. This is Bisignani's second selection to the Academic All-District team and she is just the fourth repeat selection in program history.
 
A CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American and NCAA Elite 90 Award winner last season, Bisignani boasts a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a double major in molecular and cellular biology and psychology. She is a three-time NCAA qualifier and is a two-time All-American in swimming. Bisignani is also a member of the Johns Hopkins Outdoor Track & Field Team and was recently named the Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
 
Bisignani qualified for this year's NCAA Swimming Championship in the 200 Free Relay and earned All-America honors in the event after the championship was cancelled. She was part of the 200 Free Relay team that finished fourth at last year's championship. In track, she won the 2019 Centennial Conference Championship in the discus and qualified for the NCAA Championships, where she placed 13th.
 
Bisignani has been a research assistant in the JHU Laboratory for Child Development as well as the Neuroendocrinology Lab at Saint Vincent College. She works in the front office of the JHU Athletic Department and as well as on the game day operations crew. Bisignani is a tutor with the JHU Center for Student Success as well as at Waverly Elementary School. In addition, she is a volunteer care-giver for a patient with multiple sclerosis and volunteers at Mercy Medical Center in the ER and Get-Well Network.
