BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team had two players named to the 2020 USILA/Warrior & New Balance Scholar All-America Team it was recently announced as recent graduates
Cole Williams and
Owen Colwell were both honored. The selection of Williams and Colwell pushes Johns Hopkins' all-time number of USILA Scholar All-Americans to 17.
To be named to the USILA Scholar All-America Team, players must be nominated by their coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Ultimately, final selections are made by the Scholar All-America Committee.
Williams, who recently earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the third time in his career, was an Honorable Mention USILA All-American as a sophomore and a Second Team All-Big Ten selection as a sophomore and junior. He has 79 goals and 43 assists in his career and recently graduated with a degree in economics and minors in entrepreneurship & management and marketing communications. Williams graduated with a 3.17 cumulative GPA.
Colwell, who served as a team captain in 2020, also earned his third selection as an Academic All-Big Ten as a senior. He ran his streak of consecutive starts on the Blue Jay close defense to 39 games by starting all six games in 2020 and has career totals of two goals, one assist, 71 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers. He graduated with a 3.28 cumulative GPA and a degree in political science with a minor in management.
The USILA Scholar All-America Team was first selected in 1989. This is the fifth time Johns Hopkins has placed multiple players on the team.
