The Short Story: Sophomore
William Hu led the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team with a third-place finish at the 41
st annual Temple Open on Sunday. Five fencers finished in the top-20 in the Blue Jays' season opener.

How it Happened
• Hu led seven Blue Jay Sabrists as he finished in a tie for third-place with an 11-1 record on the day. He went 8-0 in pool play and then advanced to the semifinals in the elimination round. Senior
Eryk Kokosinski placed ninth with a 7-3 record. He finished pool play with a 6-2 record and then made it to the round of 16 in elimination.
• Junior
David DeScherer went 8-2 on the day to finish in 13
th place. He went 6-1 in pool play before making it to the round of 16. Junior
Sachin Mehta finished with a 7-2 record on the day to place 19
th. He went 7-1 in pool play and then advanced to the round of 32.
• Senior
Devon Osgood finished with a 4-6 record and took 32
nd place. He went 3-5 in pool play and then advanced to the round of 32. Freshman
Jonathan Yao placed 42
nd with a 5-4 record. He went 4-4 in pool play and lost in the first round of elimination. Senior
Paul Lam tied for 54
th place with an 8-0 record in pool play.
• In the Foil, senior
Noah Park led JHU with a 19
th place finish, out of 73 fencers. He went 5-3 in pool play and advanced to the round of 32. Senior
Matthew Jacobs finished in 35
th place with a 5-4 record. After going 5-3 in pool play he lost in the first round of elimination.
• Sophomore
Gabe Insler led the Blue Jays as he finished in a tie for 30
th in the Epee, out of 92 fencers. He finished pool play with a 5-3 record and then lost in the round of 32 in the elimination round.
• Freshman
Ethan Kim placed 34
th with a 5-4 record on the day. He went 5-3 in pool play and then lost in the round of 64. Junior
Jeffrey Wang took 43
rd place with a 5-4 record. He finished pool play with a 5-3 record and then lost in the round of 64.
• Sophomore
Julius Dunn finished in a tie for 51
st place with a 2-7 record. He went 2-6 in pool play and then lost in the round of 64. Senior
Kyle Kennedy finished in a tie for 53
rd place with a 2-7 record. He also went 2-6 in pool play and then fell in the round of 64.
• Junior
Danny Comer took 73
rd place with a 5-3 record on the day. He went 1-3 in pool play and then won the consolation draw with a 4-0 record. Junior
Kent Kotaka finished in a tie for 82
nd place with a 3-6 record overall. He went 0-4 in pool play and then placed 12
th in the consolation round with a 3-2 record.

What it Means
• This marks the second straight trip to the Temple Open that the Blue Jays have had a Sabrist finish in the top-three.
