The Short Story: The second-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team got an early goal from senior
Maddie Brown-Scherer and the Blue Jay defense held visiting Bryn Mawr to just three shots as the Blue Jays picked up a 1-0 win at Homewood Field Saturday evening.
How it Happened
• The Blue Jays would get all the scoring they would need on their first shot of the game at the 3:32 mark of the opening quarter. Senior
Abby Birk found Brown-Scherer in the circle and Brown-Scherer collected the feed and turned and fired one past Bryn Mawr goalie Maggie Titus to give the Blue Jays the early 1-0 lead.
• Brown-Scherer's goal would stand as the lone tally in the game as Titus would turn away nine Blue Jay offerings. She made eight of her nine saves in the second and third quarters combined as Hopkins collected 10 of its 16 shots in the game in the middle two periods, but couldn't create more separation than the one goal.
• On the other end, the Blue Jay defense kept the Owls away from Blue jay goalies
Alexis Loder and
Morgan Seward, who were forced to make just two saves – both by Seward in the second quarter – as Hopkins posted its sixth consecutive shutout.
