Â
How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped out to a nine-point lead in the game's opening four minutes and never trailed. Senior
Diara Oden and freshman
Greta Miller fueled the opening run with eight of the Blue Jays' 10 points. Stevenson trimmed the early deficit back to five with six unanswered points, but Hopkins came right back with back-to-back buckets from Oden and freshman
Jadyn Murray pushed the lead right back to nine. The teams traded baskets over the final three minutes and the Blue Jays took a 20-14 lead into the second quarter.
• The Blue Jays came out firing in the second, scoring nine straight points to push their lead to 15 midway through the stanza. Junior
Emily Howe capped the run with jumper off a
Michaela O'Neil steal. Emori Jeselski got the Mustangs on the board with a pair of free throws to make it a 29-16 game.
• Hopkins responded with six straight points to go back up by 19 at the 3:09-mark. The teams went back-and-forth over the final three minutes and JHU took a 41-25 lead into the half. All nine of the Mustangs' points in that final stretch came from downtown.
• Kellie Johnson opened the third with a pair of free throws for the Mustangs to cut the deficit to 14, but senior
Erin Walsh answered with two of her own to spark a quick 6-0 run as the Blue Jays went up 47-27. Stevenson responded with a 9-4 spurt to pull back within 15. But that's as close as they would get. Three straight points by Walsh sparked a 12-2 run to end the quarter and Hopkins led 63-38. Hopkins picked up where it left off in the fourth quarter and pushed its lead to as much as 32 before closing out the 83-54 win. Â
