The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's cross country team placed all five of its scoring runners in the top 20 and placed second in the final team standings at the 2021 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships Saturday morning with 63 points. Carnegie Mellon won the team title as the Tartans posted an impressive score 30.
Race Highlights     Â
Sophomore Matt Kleiman led the way for the Blue Jays as he placed fourth overall with a time of 26:29.2 in the field of 222 competitors. Packed into a group of six behind eventual champion Christopher Scharf of Dickinson, Kleiman was the third runner through among the six and he was just five seconds away from the runner-up finisher.
Â
While Kleiman's effort led the way for the Blue Jays, it was the quartet of juniors
Tyler Amos and
Ian Spears and freshmen Charlie Teeter and Gavin McElhennon that were the keys to the runner-up finish.
Â
Amos clocked in at 26:59.2 to place 12

Â
• Johns Hopkins was one of just two teams in the top five in the final team standings that did not have a senior among its entries.
