Johns Hopkins Picked to Win Centennial Conference Crown

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team has been picked to win the Centennial Conference in a preseason vote of the league's head coaches and Sports Information Directors. JHU is ranked 14th in the D3hoops.com Preseason Poll.

The Blue Jays earned 11 first-place votes and a total of 155 points. Swarthmore garnered eight first-place votes and 151 points. Muhlenberg (one first-place vote, 125 points), Franklin & Marshall (94 points), and Ursinus (93 points) round out the top five.

Hopkins won the 2020 Centennial Conference Championship after knocking off top-ranked and previously unbeaten Swarthmore in the title game. JHU finished the season with a 24-4 record, including 16-2 in the league, and was ranked as high as sixth nationally.

The Blue Jays return three starters from that championship squad in graduate student Conner Delaney and seniors Ethan Bartlett and Tom Quarry.

Delaney, the reigning Centennial Conference and Middle Atlantic Player of the Year, was named a preseason All-American by D3hoops.com earlier this week. He led the conference in assists (136), field goals (179) and points (490) and also ranked in the top-10 in three pointers (45), free throws (87) and steals (46).

Bartlett started 22 games and averaged 8.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals. He led the team in rebounding, and ranked 10th in the Centennial. He also ranked third in steals for the Blue Jays. Quarry returns after earning Second Team All-Centennial honors in 2019-20. He led the Centennial in free throw percentage (.878) and ranked in the top-10 in three-point percentage (.397), blocks (19) and scoring (13.4).
Hopkins opens the season on Sunday, November 7 at Christopher Newport at 4:00 pm.
