Blue Jays Welcome Red Devils to Homewood For Senior Day

The Game
«  Johns Hopkins (7-1, 6-1 CC) wraps up the home portion of its 2021 regular season schedule as the Blue Jays welcome Dickinson (3-5, 3-4 CC) to Homewood Field.

A Look Back
«  Johns Hopkins improved to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Centennial with a 38-17 victory against then 18th-ranked Susquehanna last Saturday at Homewood Field.
« Dickinson rebounded from back-to-back one-score losses with a 27-10 win at Juniata.

Poll Position
« Johns Hopkins will carry a pair of top-20 rankings into this week's game against Dickinson as the Blue Jays check in at #18 in the AFCA Poll and #20 in the D3football.com Poll this week.
« Since the AFCA Poll debuted in 1999, this week's #18 ranking marks the 106th time JHU has been ranked in the top 25.  More recently, the Blue Jays are in the top 25 for the 89th time in the last 97 polls dating back to 2011.
«  Since the D3football.com Poll debuted in 2003, this week's #20 ranking marks the 120th time Johns Hopkins has appeared in the top 25.

Honoring Our Seniors
« This week's game is the last regular season game on Homewood Field for the seniors and graduate students on the 2021 Johns Hopkins football team.
« We will honor the seniors/grad. students in a special pregame ceremony on Saturday.

We're Honored
« After last week's win against Susquehanna, Johns Hopkins swept the Centennial Conference Offensive & Defensive Player of the Week Awards for the second time this season.
« Junior RB Danny Wolf grabbed CC OPOW honors after rushing for a career-high 140 yards and four touchdowns, while sophomore DB Nick Seidel nabbed DPOW honors after posting nine tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one pass breakup.

The Race for the Boot
«  Johns Hopkins kept the race for the Centennial Conference title and the coveted boot trophy into a four-team race with last week's win over Susquehanna.  With two games remaining, here are the clearest paths to at least a share of the title for the four teams still alive:

Johns Hopkins, Muhlenberg & Susquehanna:  Two wins guarantees the Blue Jays, Mules and River Hawks no worse than a share of the title.  Either Muhlenberg or Susquehanna is guaranteed one more loss as those two teams play each other in week nine.

Ursinus:  The Bears can get a share of the title with two wins and one loss by Johns Hopkins, Muhlenberg and Susquehanna.

The Race for the Bid
«  The Centennial Conference champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.  In the case of co-champions, a tie-breaking procedure is in place to determine which team will earn the automatic bid.
«  There are many scenarios that can play out with two games remaining, but here is the clearest path to the automatic bid for each of the four teams still alive:

Johns Hopkins: The Blue Jays grab the automatic bid with two wins and a Susquehanna win over Muhlenberg.  Not in complete control of their fate, but not unreasonable.

Muhlenberg:  The Mules get the automatic bid with two wins.  In complete control of their own fate.

Susquehanna:  The River Hawks can earn the automatic bid with two wins and one loss by Johns Hopkins.  Like Johns Hopkins, not in complete control of their own fate, but still very much alive.

Ursinus:  The Bears' path is a bit trickier.  They need to win both of their remaining games, have  Johns Hopkins and Susquehanna go 0-2 and have Muhlenberg split its remaining two games by beating Susquehanna and losing to Moravian.  The Bears' chances fall under the "so you're saying there's a chance" category.

Road Warriors
«  The recent game at Gettysburg was the last in a stretch that saw the Blue Jays play four of five games on the road.
« The Blue Jays played at Juniata (Sept. 18) and at Moravian (Sept. 25), hosted F&M (Oct. 2) and then played at Muhlenberg (Oct. 15) and at Gettysburg (Oct. 23) during the five-game stretch.
« Last week's game against Susquehanna was just the second home game for the Blue Jays since September 11.

Scoring Notes of Interest
« Johns Hopkins has scored 393 points in its first eight games of the 2021 season.  That's the most points JHU has scored in any eight-game span in school history and the 393 already rank as the 11th-best total in school history.
« In 32 quarters this season, the Blue Jays have scored 10 or more points in 20 of the 32 and 20 or more in seven of 32.

Quite a Run

« On the year, they have 2,363 combined receiving yards on 167 receptions with 21 touchdowns.  They have more combined receptions and yards than all but one other team in the Centennial Conference.
« Breaking it down by game, they have combined for 20 or more receptions in all but one game, have rolled up more than 300 receiving yards five times and accounted for four or more touchdowns in four different games.

On a Roll
«  Johns Hopkins is 95-7 in its last 102 regular season games dating back to late in the 2010 season.
«  The Blue Jays are 104-15 in their last 119 games overall since late in the 2010 season.

At Home at Homewood
«  Since the start of the 2010 season, the Blue Jays are 56-7 (.889) at Homewood Field.
«  Johns Hopkins had won 12 consecutive games at Homewood Field before the loss on September 14, 2019 against Susquehanna.  This is tied for the longest home winning streak in school history.  JHU previously won 12 straight games at home from 2014-15.
