How it Happened
•Â
1stÂ
Half
The Diplomats looked to set the tempo early on in Friday's semifinal matchup as Meg O'Callahan put a shot on goal less than 30 seconds into the contest. Less than a minute later,
Rachel Jackson fired on target, but Emily Senko turned it away, making a diving save, but giving Hopkins a corner. With nothing doing on the corner, the Blue Jays next chance came in the fifth minute of the contest, but Senko made another save of a Jackson shot attempt.
Caitlin Hendricks made saves in the eighth and ninth minutes on shot from Sierra Brophy and Sarah Marsan before picking up her fourth save of the half in the 18th minute on another shot from Marsan. Franklin & Marshall broke the ice in the 23rd minute. O'Callahan played a ball into the box and as
Bonnie Shea tried to clear it, it ended up on the left foot of Brophy who beat Hendricks for her 13th goal of the season. Hopkins had just one more shot on net in the half with
Riley O'Toole's shot being saved in the 30th minute. Hendricks kept the deficit at 1-0, stopping a Haley Barge shot attempt in the 39th.

Half
Â
• There was plenty of action in the second half, but ultimately nothing changed on the scoresheet as the Diplomats turned away any and all chances to hold onto a 1-0 victory. Hopkins earned corners in the 47th, 50th and 56th, but couldn't force Senko into action on any of the attempts. Finally in the 60th, the Blue Jays got a clean look off a corner as
Katie Sullivan found the head of Shea, but it hit the crossbar and the Diplomats cleared it away. Another corner opportunity came in the 61st minute, resulting in a shot from O'Toole, but once again it was Senko with the save. In the 69th minute, Brophy made a dazzling move into space and fired, but Hendricks saw it the whole way and kept the game within one. Barge made Hendricks answer the call in the 73rd minute and the senior keeper did just that, adding another save to her total. Hendricks made another save in the 80th on another nice bit on footwork from the Diplomats, this time from Alison Francis. Despite totaling four more shot attempts over the final five minutes, the Blue Jays didn't force Senko to make another save before the buzzer sounded on their first loss of the 2021 season.Â
What it Means
• The Blue Jays will miss out on a Centennial Championship Game appearance for the first time since 2003.Â
Â
• The fifth-seeded Diplomats will play second-seeded McDaniel for the Centennial Championship on Homewood Field on Sunday afternoon.Â
• There will be a new team added to the list of Centennial Conference champions as neither Franklin & Marshall or McDaniel have ever won a Centennial Tournament.Â
Inside the Box Score
• Hendricks added eight saves, the second most she's made in a contest this season.Â
• This is the first game this season that Hopkins has been held scoreless, going 16 straight contests with at least one goal.Â
• F&M outshot JHU by just two (16-14), but the gap in shots on goal was five (9-4).
