OPENING DRAW
• Johns Hopkins is back at Homewood Field for a two-game set against fourth-ranked Northwestern on Friday and Sunday.
• The Blue Jays are coming off a season-opening 13-10 loss to Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats meanwhile, were idle last weekend after a 23-7 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes on February 14.
• This weekend's two-game set wraps up a three-game homestand to open the 2021 season. Hopkins will not return to Homewood Field until Wednesday, March 10.
LAST TIME OUT
• Rutgers used a 9-2 run to defeat Hopkins, 13-10, in the Blue Jays' season-opener Sunday at Homewood Field.
• The Scarlet Knights jumped on top with a pair of early goals, but the Blue Jays responded with five straight and eight of the next 10 goals to push out to an 8-4 lead with 1:38 to play in the half. Rutgers had the final say of the half, scoring as time expired to make it a three-goal game at the break.
• Rutgers scored three straight coming out of the half to tie the game at eight.
Maeve Barker and
Shelby Harrison sandwiched goals around a Cassidy Spilis score and JHU led 10-9 at the 14:30-mark. Rutgers answered with the final four goals of the game to grab the win.
• Harrison led the Blue Jays with four points (3g, 1a), tying her career high. Barker,
Mackenzie Heldberg and
Lexi Souder had two goals apiece, while
Maggie Schneidereith (1g, 2a) and Barger (2a) also had multi-point games.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
• Senior
Keegan Barger has been selected in a vote by her teammates to serve as the Blue Jays' captain for the 2021 season. In addition, a member of each class was selected to serve in a "captain's cohort" to assist Barger this season.
• This marks just the fourth time in the 46-year history of the program, and the first time since 1996, that the Blue Jays will have a lone captain. Barger, who has started every game of her career, was one of three Blue Jays named to the Big Ten's Preseason Players to Watch list.

IN FEBRUARY
• Hopkins is 38-18 (.678) under head coach
Janine Tucker in the month of February. Now in their 46th season, the Blue Jays did not play a game in the month of February until 2002. Hopkins, then in just its fourth season as a Division I program, lost to Vanderbilt, 7-4, on February 24.

Aurora Cordingley and
Mackenzie Heldberg each notched the 100th point of their careers last season. In fact, they did so a in a four-day span and joined
Maggie Schneidereith as the only current Blue Jays with 100 career points.
• Heldberg achieved the milestone in just 36 days, making her the sixth fastest to reach the mark since the program moved to Division I in 1999. Cordingley reached the milestone in just 40 games.
• In what turned out to be the final game of the 2020 season,
Maggie Schneidereith tallied the 200th point of her career in a 13-10 win at Saint Joseph's. She is the seventh player in school Division I history, and 12th overall, to reach the milestone. In addition, it took Schneidereith just 62 games to score 200 points.
• This is the 12th time in program history that at least three teammates have had 100 (or more) career points.
LENDING A HAND
• Last season, Hopkins ranked second in the Big Ten and 20th nationally in assists per game (7.00). In the season opener versus Rutgers, seven of Hopkins' 10 goals were assisted.

Aurora Cordingley led the Blue Jays and the Big Ten, and ranked 12th nationally with 18 helpers last season.
Mackenzie Heldberg ranked second on the team and fourth in the conference with 12 assists.
• Cordingley ranks 12th in school Division I history with 49 assists, while Heldberg is tied for 18th with 36.

Maggie Schneidereith is Hopkins' active career leader with 81 assists, which ranks fifth in school DI history and eighth all-time.

AT THE DRAW
• Senior
Shelby Harrison has led the team in draws the last three seasons and currently ranks fifth all-time in school history with 194 career draws. She needs just 73 draws to break the program's all-time record of 267, held by
Dene' DiMartino '16.
• Harrison holds the school record for draws in a game (11) and by a freshman (91). She has had six or more draws in a game 12 times in her career.
• Senior
Keegan Barger is also a threat at the draw circle and she ranked second on the team in draws a year ago (17) and as a freshman (54). She ranks eighth in school history, and seventh in school Division I history, with 135 career draws. She has had five or more draws in a game nine times in her career.
AGAINST THE WILDCATS
• Hopkins and Northwestern meet for the 19th time in a series that began in 2002. The Blue Jays and the Wildcats were both members of the American Lacrosse Conference from its inception in 2002 until its disbandment in 2014.
• The Wildcats have won each of the last three meetings, including the last two at Homewood Field. Friday's game will mark the third straight at Homewood between the two.
• Sophomore
Dene' DiMartino scored five goals, including the game-winner with 20 seconds remaining in the second overtime as the Blue Jays beat the Wildcats, 12-11, in 2014. It was Northwestern's first home loss in nearly two years and just the third in the last 10 seasons. In addition, it was Hopkins' first ever win in Evanston.
• In 2011, Hopkins scored three goals in an eight-minute span late in the second half and forced three turnovers to upset second-ranked Northwestern at Homewood Field. Senior
