Johns Hopkins Blanks Franklin & Marshall, 9-0, in Opener

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team returned to action in style, shutting out visiting Franklin & Marshall, 9-0, in the Blue Jays' first match since February 29, 2020.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep of the doubles matches – without losing a game. Senior Dhanya Asokumar and freshman Ali Bader grabbed the first point of the match and the season when they beat Ella Mure and Caroline Ulrich, 8-0, at third doubles. Sophomores Anjali Devireddy and Emily Javedan followed with an 8-0 win over Sammi Perry and Skye Victor at second. Senior Anjie Kashyap and graduate student Sophia Strickland wrapped up doubles play with an 8-0 win defeat of Hayley Bidwell and Cassidy Landau at first.
• Devireddy was the first Blue Jay off the court in singles as she beat Perry 6-0, 6-1 to give JHU a 4-0 lead. Strickland then clinched the win when she defeated Bidwell 6-0, 6-3 at second. Kashyap followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at first over Landau.
• With the match decided, the final three singles matches were decided by eight-game pro sets. Javedan defeated Victor 8-2 at fourth, while Asokumar earned an 8-1 win at fifth over Ulrich. Junior Jessica Liang beat Mure, 8-1, at sixth singles.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 21-20 all-time against Franklin & Marshall with its 16th straight win in the series. The Blue Jays have a winning record against the Diplomats for the first time in 42 years.
• The Blue Jays push their Centennial Conference win streak to 131 consecutive regular season matches.
• Bader earned her first career collegiate doubles win.
• Strickland earned her 50th career doubles win and is now tied for ninth in program history. Kashyap moved into a tie for 25th with her 35th career doubles win.
 
Up Next
• Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, March 27 as the Blue Jays host the Dickinson Red Devils. The Centennial Conference match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
