OPENING DRAW
• Johns Hopkins kicks off a four-game road swing on Wednesday as the Blue Jays travel to College Park to take on the 11th-ranked Maryland Terrapins.
• Hopkins is coming off a 17-10 win over 23rd-ranked Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. It was the Blue Jays' second straight win after a 26-day layoff. The Blue Jays split the season series with the Scarlet Knights and avenged their season-opening loss.
• It will be a mad dash to the end of the regular season for Hopkins as it is scheduled to play six games in 17 days - with the final four games on the road.
AFTER THE BREAK
• The 26-day layoff seems to be just what the doctor ordered. In the two games since, JHU has scored 30 goals, with 15 assists, and is connecting on 78.6 percent of its shots on goal. In addition, Hopkins is 6-of-11 (.545) on free position shots and is 34-of-54 at the draw (.629). In the cage, Hopkins has posted a .524 save percentage and a 10.00 goals against average.
LAST TIME OUT
• Johns Hopkins' 11 seniors and graduate students combined for 11 goals and 11 assists in the Blue Jays' win over Rutgers on Senior Day.
• Tied at three midway through the first half,
Aurora Cordingley scored to spark a 9-1 Blue Jay run that spanned more than 19 minutes and saw JHU take a 12-4 lead. The Scarlet Knights ended the run with a pair of goals but the Jays answered with two of their own and JHU led 14-6 with 18:21 to play. Rutgers used a 4-1 spurt to pull back within five, but Cordingley closed out the win with two late goals.
• Cordingley and
Mackenzie Heldberg each finished with a career-high seven points.
Maggie Schneidereith totaled four points (1g, 3) and
Maeve Barker had a career-best four goals and five points.
Trinity McPherson led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls while
Haley Reitz had two takeaways and three ground balls.
Kathleen Garvey finished with 12 saves, three ground balls and a caused turnover.
I'M HONORED
• Seniors
Aurora Cordingley,
Shelby Harrison and
Kathleen Garvey were honored by the Big Ten on Tuesday for their performances in Hopkins' wins over Penn State and Rutgers.
• Cordingley was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Week as well as the US Lacrosse Player of the Week after totaling 12 goals, one assist, 11 draw controls and five caused turnovers. She scored a career-high six goals, caused three turnovers and controlled a then career-high five draws versus Penn State. Cordingley followed that with six goals, one assist, two caused turnovers and six draws against Rutgers.
• Harrison finished with three goals, one assist, one ground ball and 14 draw controls in the two wins. She notched two points, one ground ball and a game and season-high eight draws against Penn State. She then scored twice and controlled six draws in the win over Rutgers.
• Garvey totaled 22 saves, six ground balls and a caused turnover for the week. She made 10 saves and collected three ground balls versus Penn State. She followed that with 12 saves, including 10 in the second half, three ground balls and a takeaway against Rutgers.
• Freshman
Abbey Hurlbrink was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on March 9 after her performance in JHU's two wins at Ohio State. She totaled three goals, one ground ball, three caused turnovers and six draws in two wins over the Buckeyes. Hurlbrink has scored nine goals, on just 11 shots on goal, in eight games and ranks second on the team with 18 draws. She ranks third among freshmen in the Big Ten in draws and goals.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
• Senior
Keegan Barger has been selected in a vote by her teammates to serve as the Blue Jays' captain for the 2021 season. In addition, a member of each class was selected to serve in a "captain's cohort" to assist Barger this season.
• This marks just the fourth time in the 46-year history of the program, and the first time since 1996, that the Blue Jays will have a lone captain. Barger, who has started every game of her career, was one of three Blue Jays named to the Big Ten's Preseason Players to Watch list.

Aurora Cordingley scored the 100th goal of her career on Sunday with her fifth goal of the day. She is the 14th player in school Division I history, and 28th all-time to reach the milestone.
• Cordingley and
Mackenzie Heldberg each notched the 100th point of their careers last season. In fact, they did so a in a four-day span and joined
Maggie Schneidereith as the only current Blue Jays with 100 career points.
• Heldberg achieved the milestone in just 36 days, making her the sixth fastest to reach the mark since the program moved to Division I in 1999. Cordingley reached the milestone in just 40 games.
• In what turned out to be the final game of the 2020 season,
Maggie Schneidereith tallied the 200th point of her career in a 13-10 win at Saint Joseph's. She is the seventh player in school Division I history, and 12th overall, to reach the milestone. In addition, it took Schneidereith just 62 games to score 200 points.
• This is the 12th time in program history that at least three teammates have had 100 (or more) career points.
COUNTDOWN TO 300
• Head coach
Janine Tucker needs just one win to reach 300 for her career. She would become just the ninth coach in NCAA Division I history to reach the milestone.
LENDING A HAND

Maggie Schneidereith has had three multi-assist games this season and she is Hopkins' active career leader with 89 assists. She ranks fifth in school Division I history and seventh all-time in career assists. Schneidereith aso ranks ninth in the Big Ten with 1.25 assists per game.
• Last season, Hopkins ranked second in the Big Ten and 20th nationally in assists per game (7.00). In the season opener versus Rutgers, seven of Hopkins' 10 goals were assisted. In game two against fourth-ranked Northwestern, seven of the Blue Jays' nine goals were assisted. Against Maryland, seven of JHU's eight goals were assisted. On Sunday, Hopkins totaled 13 assists on its 17 goals. The Blue Jays rank second in the league and 26th in the nation with 6.00 assists per game.
• Last season,
Aurora Cordingley led the Blue Jays and the Big Ten, and ranked 12th nationally with 18 helpers. In 2021, she is third on the team and 12th in the league with 1.12 assists per game. For her career, she is seventh in school DI history with 57 career assists.

Mackenzie Heldberg ranked second on the team and fourth in the conference with 12 assists last season. She leads the team in assists (13) and is fifth in the Big Ten with 1.62 assists per game this season. She also ranks 12th in program history in career assists (49). Heldberg handed out a career-best six assists in the win over Rutgers on Sunday, two shy of the school single-game record.
ON THE OFFENSIVE
• The Blue Jays returned an astonishing amount of their offense from the 2020 season - 96.7% of their goals (90), 97.9% of their assists (48) and 97.2% of their points (138).
• Leading the way are
Aurora Cordingley (17g, 18a),
Mackenzie Heldberg (16g, 12) and
Maggie Schneidereith (17g, 8a), who each totaled at least 20 points in seven games in 2020. Through eight games this season, the trio has combined for 50 goals and 32 assists. They account for 57.5 percent of the Blue Jays' goals and 65.3 percent of their assists.
D - FENCE
• Last season, Hopkins led the Big Ten and ranked 14th in the nation with 10.86 caused turnovers per game. This season, JHU leads the league in caused turnovers (10.75) and ranks second in ground balls per game (17.50).

Annika Meyer led the Blue Jays and the Big Ten, and ranked 24th in the nation with 1.86 takeaways per game in 2020. She ranks third in the league and 21st in the nation in ground balls (3.00) this season. She also ranks third in the Big Ten with 1.75 caused turnovers per game.

Trinity McPherson had four caused turnovers in the win over Penn State on Wednesday and followed that with three takeaways in the win over Rutgers. She ranks fifth in the Big Ten in ground balls (2.62) and second in caused turnovers (2.12) per game.

Keegan Barger is the team's active career leader with 56 caused turnovers, which ranks 12th in school Division I history. She also holds the school single-game record with seven takeaways in a game.
Jeanne Kachris ranks 15th in school history with 51 caused turnovers.

AGAINST THE TERRAPINS
• Hopkins and Maryland meet for the second time this season and 21st time in a series that first began in 1979. The teams didn't meet again however until 2000.
• The Blue Jays are 0-20 all-time against the Terrapins, including 0-4 since JHU joined the Big Ten in 2017. Hopkins and Maryland met in the postseason for three straight years (2016-2018).
• In the last meeting between the two just a month ago, Hopkins dropped a heartbreaker, 9-8, in overtime. The Blue Jays led 5-4 at the half, but the Terps came out firing in the second with three unanswered to go up 7-5. The teams then traded goals and Maryland led 8-6 with 10:57 to play.
Shelby Harrison and
Aurora Cordingley scored back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart to tie the game at the 6:09-mark. Both defenses got stops over the final six minutes and for the first time in 20 meetings, Hopkins and Maryland would need overtime to decide a winner.
Hannah Leubecker scored with 3:08 to play in overtime to win it for the Terps.

Mackenzie Heldberg led the Blue Jays with a game-high five points (2g, 3a) while
Maggie Schneidereith and Cordingley had three points (2g, 1a) each.
Kathleen Garvey finished with 12 saves for her third double-digit save performance of the season.
