Schneidereith's Career Day Leads Hopkins to 20-13 Win at Michigan

The Basics
• Score: #15 Johns Hopkins-20, #23 Michigan-13
• Records: JHU (7-5, 7-5 B1G) • UM (3-8, 3-8 B1G)
• Location: Ann Arbor, MI • U-M Lacrosse Stadium
• The Short Story: Graduate student Maggie Schneidereith notched a career-best seven goals and nine points to lead the Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team to a 20-13 win at 23rd-ranked Michigan in both teams' regular season finale.

 How it Happened
• Michigan jumped out to a two-goal lead but Hopkins answered with back-to-back goals from freshman Megan Kielbasa and sophomore Maeve Barker to knot the score at two with 19:56 to play in the half. The Wolverines responded with three goals in just 86 seconds to push out to a 5-2 lead.
• Senior Shelby Harrison ended the run when she scored on a high-to-low shot from the right alley at 17:05. That sparked a 6-1 Blue Jay run as they turned a three-goal deficit into a two-goal lead at 9:34. Five different players scored during the run, that was capped by an Abbey Hurlbrink unassisted tally to put Hopkins on top 8-6.
• Michigan came right back with three straight, in just under three minutes, and took back the lead on Maggie Kane's strike with 3:54 to go in the half. Hopkins wasn't done however. Schneidereith completed her first half hat trick when she picked the lower right corner off the dodge at 1:47. Graduate student Mackenzie Heldberg then beat the half-time buzzer off a re-start to send the Blue Jays into the half with a 10-9 lead.
• Schneidereith opened the second-half scoring off a feed from senior Aurora Cordingley and the lead was just two less than 90 seconds in. Molly Garrett and Nadine Stewart answered with goals exactly two minutes apart to tie the game at 11 with 23:55 to go.
• Heldberg then scored an unassisted tally at the 23:19-mark to put the Blue Jays on top, and ignite a nine-goal run. The run spanned 16 and a half minutes and saw five different players score. Schneidereith put the punctuation on the run with her seventh goal of the game, scoring a back-hander off a pass from freshman Eliza Bowman at 6:49. Michigan got a pair of late goals from Erin Garvey and Stewart to close out the scoring. Garvey's goal at 4:39 snapped a 19-minute scoreless drought for the Wolverines.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 7-5 on the season and finishes in a tie for second in the Big Ten. The Blue Jays will be the number three seed in next week's Big Ten Tournament. The number three seed is the highest for JHU since joining the Big Ten in 2017.
• The Blue Jays are now 5-1 all-time against the Wolverines, including 3-1 in Ann Arbor.
• Schneidereith's seven goals are tied for the second most in school Division I history and are one shy of the school record. She is now fifth in school DI history with 149 career goals and needs just five assists to reach 100 for her career.
• Heldberg notched the 150th point of her career with her first assist of the game and now needs just two goals for 100 in her career.
• The 20 goals are the most for Hopkins since a 20-6 win over Furman on March 2, 2019.
