Hopkins Wins 14th Straight Centennial Conference Championship

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team secured its 14th straight Centennial Conference Championship with a 9-0 win at Ursinus Saturday.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match as the Blue Jays lost just one game in doubles play. Sophomores Anjali Devireddy and Emily Javedan earned the first point of the match when they beat Cara Freedman and Maddie Russell, 8-0, at first. Senior Anjie Kashyap and graduate student Sophia Strickland won by the same score over Brenna Trkula and Avery Samer at second. Senior Dhanya Asokumar and freshman Ali Bader wrapped up doubles play with an 8-1 at third over Caitlin Vinsonhaler and Claire Burke.
• Bader gave the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead as she beat Trkula without dropping a game at second singles. Asokumar then clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Samer at fourth. Devireddy followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at first over Russell to put Hopkins up 6-0.
• Strickland then beat Vinsonhaler 6-1, 6-0 at third and freshman Hallie Gallo did not drop a game in her win over Maddie Sorebo at sixth. Junior Jessica Liang ended the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Madison Harvey at fifth.  
 
What it Means
• Hopkins moves to 24-2 all-time against Ursinus and has won 22 straight in the series.
• The Blue Jays push their regular season conference win streak to 136 and will look to wrap up their 14th undefeated conference slate next Saturday.
• Strickland is now just one why shy of reaching 100 for her career. She is tied for sixth in school history with 54 career doubles wins and is seventh with 99 total wins (45 singles, 54 doubles).
• Kashyap is now tied for 18th in program history with 38 career doubles wins.
 
Up Next
• Hopkins closes out the regular season on Saturday, May 1 as Muhlenberg visits Baltimore. The match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
