The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team beat host NC Wesleyan, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

How it Happened
• The Blue Jays jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Battling Bishops with wins at second and third doubles. Freshmen
James and
Thomas Yu grabbed the first point of the match when they beat John Falke and Roberto Puig 8-5 at second. Senior
Vishnu Joshi and sophomore
Alexander Kernagis then defeated Valentin Mussi and Max Robinson, 8-3, at third to put JHU up 2-1. NC Wesleyan sliced the lead in half when Jhonny Acosta and Juan Vallejo beat freshmen
Arjun Asokumar and
Daniel Ardila, 8-5, at first.
• Joshi pushed Hopkins lead back to two with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Puig at first. Asokumar followed with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Vallejo at second and the Blue Jays led 4-1.
• The Bishops weren't going way however as Mussi grabbed a 6-1, 7-5 win at sixth over sophomore
Andrew Tran. Augusta Roca followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ardila at fifth and just like that it was 4-3.

Thomas Yu earned a hard-fought 7-6 (6) win in his first set and then took the second, 6-2, to defeat Acosta at third and send the Blue Jays to Chattanooga and the NCAA Quarterfinals.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 10-0 on the season and pushes its win streak to 13 matches.
• JHU is now 7-5 all-time against NC Wesleyan, including 1-1 in the NCAA Tournament. In 2010, the two met in the NCAA Sweet 16 in Baltimore and the Bishops rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Blue Jays, 5-3.
• The Blue Jays advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fifth time, with all five appearances coming in the last nine seasons.
• Joshi is now tied for 19
th in school history with 40 career singles wins and 81 combined wins.
