Hammond, LeFevre Lead Hopkins over 21st-Ranked Mary Washington, 1-0

The Basics
• Score: #17 Johns Hopkins-1, #21 Mary Washington-0
• Records: JHU (2-0-1) • UMW (3-1-0)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team was forced to play a man down for more than 50 minutes but came away with a 1-0 win over 21st-ranked Mary Washington Saturday night at Homewood Field.

How it Happened
• Chances were limited in the first half but the game took a turn in the 40th minute when the Blue Jays were shown a red card. On the ensuing free kick, just 23 yards out, Carter Berg's shot seemed destined to slip inside the right post but a diving Xander LeFevre snagged the shot to keep the Eagles off the board.
• LeFevre opened the second half with three straight saves in a two-minute span to keep the game scoreless. The Blue Jays then capitalized off a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Liam Creedon's corner kick was headed away by a Mary Washington defender. Freshman Jacob Hammond ran onto the rebound and volleyed a shot from about 25 yards out into the middle of the goal in the 53rd minute.
• The Eagles turned up the pressure and fired nine shots, including several point-blank opportunities, over the final 33 minutes but LeFevre turned them all away.
