Â
How it Happened
• St. Mary's, which was averaging more than three goals per game, took the early lead in the 21
st minute. Luke Duswalt collected the ball in the middle, cut back on his defender and fired a shot into the upper right corner from about 22 yards out.
• Freshman
Jonathan Cui had two great chances, less than three minutes apart, to draw the Blue Jays level, but both attempts were turned aside by Liam deLone-Bellsey. Senior
Liam Creedon just missed wide on a low, hard shot from 30 yards out in the 51
st minute. Freshman
Logan Falzarano had a great look in the 57
th minute, but his shot was knocked away.
• Hopkins finally broke through in the 69
th minute to knot the score at one. Junior
Axel Whamond sent the ball into the box from the right touchline. Graduate student
Jason Werenski ran onto the ball and scored on a left-footed volley with a defender on him.
• Just over four minutes later, the Blue Jays took the lead on Werenski's scored goal of the game. Sophomore
Aidan Dunphy flicked the ball to Whamond, who juked a defender on the endline and then crossed the ball in front of the Seahawks' goal. Werenski crashed the goal and redirected the ball past deLone-Bellsey in the 73
rd minute.
• Hopkins pushed its lead to 3-1 in the 84
th minute on what appeared to be an insurance goal. Freshman
Will Sangpachatanaruk dropped a pass back to sophomore
Francis Meyer, who touched the ball to graduate student
Nate Charendoff. He took one touch and then ripped a left-footed shot from the top of the box into the left upper 90.
• The Seahawks kept battling and pulled within one in the 87
th minute. Roshawn Panton sent the ball into the box where Jacob Breslauer settled it and then poked it into the Blue Jay goal.
