Jones Strikes Twice Off Bench To Lead Hop To 3-0 Victory

The Basics
• Score: #2 Johns Hopkins-3, Swarthmore-0
• Records: JHU (5-0-1) • SWAT (1-2-1)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: Callie Jones scored in both halves for Johns Hopkins while Katie Sullivan netted another game-winning goal to lead the Blue Jays to a 3-0 victory over Swarthmore on a rainy Wednesday night in Baltimore.

How it Happened
• 1st Half
With lightning in a nearby radius, the game was forced to start late, getting underway around 7:25 p.m. Both teams earned chances in the first five minutes of the contest. After the Blue Jays earned a corner, Bonnie Shea's header sailed just over the crossbar less than two minutes in. Nearly a minute later, Samantha Barnes took the first shot for Swarthmore, firing wide. Later on in the period, Chantal Reyes made a pair of saves on shots from Katie Sullivan and Rachel Jackson. However, it was Sullivan who struck first in the 14th. Jackson played a ball to Sullivan who dribbled into space, stepped inside the box and fired with her left foot, going top-shelf over Reyes' hands. Neither team was able to put a shot on goal for a while, but Hopkins struck again in the 40th minute. Working down in the near corner, sophomore Elise Stanley played a low cross into the box, Callie Jones got her left foot on it, chipping it over the keeper and in for the second goal of the day.
• 2nd Half
Neither team put a shot on net for the first 20 minutes of the second half, but Hopkins got goal number three in the 66th minute. Jackson played a great through ball down the near sideline to Alanna Craig. Craig sent in a low cross and once again Jones was there for Hopkins, scoring her second goal of the match. Swarthmore put a shot on net in the 67th, as Abby Chang challenged Caitlin Hendricks, but the senior corralled it. Chang got another shot 30 seconds later, but once again Hendricks was ready. Swarthmore turned up the heat over the final 30 minutes, peppering some more shots at Hendricks, but the senior keeper added another clean sheet to her career total, finishing with a season-high five saves.

What it Means
• The Jays defeated the Garnet by a margin of three goals for the first time since 2013, another 3-0 victory. The Jays beat Swarthmore 3-1 in 2016. The Blue Jays are now 29-3-3 all-time vs. Swarthmore

Inside the Box Score
• Katie Sullivan and Callie Jones are now tied for the team lead with four goals a piece. This is the first multi-goal game of Jones' short Blue Jay career. For Sullivan, all four of her goals this season are game-winning goals.
• Hendricks and the Blue Jay defense continue to stymie the opposition. Hopkins has allowed just one goal in six contests.
• With two more assists tonight, Jackson is now one assist shy of her career best of five during her freshman campaign. Opposing teams have worked hard to keep Jackson from scoring, but she has adjusted to lead the team in assists through six games. With 53 career points, Jackson is seven shy of Erin Stafford for 20th all-time in Blue Jay history.
• Stanley logged 30 minutes off the bench for Hopkins, picking up her first career point, an assist on Jones' first goal.
