BALTIMORE, MD – One day after helping the Johns Hopkins football team to a 53-18 season-opening win at Stevenson, junior quarterback
Ryan Stevens and graduate student defensive back
Finn Zechman have been named the Centennial Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. This is the first time Stevens and Zechman have been honored by the Centennial Conference with player of the week award.
Â
Stevens, who was making his first career start, was 31-of-46 for 483 yards with five touchdowns against one interception. His 483 yards are the most ever in a season opener by a Johns Hopkins quarterback and the third-highest single-game total in school history. In addition, his five touchdown passes are the most for a Blue Jay quarterback in a season opener since Jon Germano had five at Randolph-Macon in 2015. Stevens also set a Centennial Conference record for passing yards in a game by a left-handed quarterback with is 483.
Â
Zechman was one of the leaders of a Blue Jay defense that held the Mustangs to just three points through three quarters. He posted five tackles, added one interception, which he returned 37 yards, had one forced fumble and two pass breakups in the victory. The interception was the third of his career and led to a Johns Hopkins touchdown.
Â
Johns Hopkins (1-0) will return to action on Saturday, September 11 when the Blue Jays welcome Ursinus to Homewood Field for the Centennial Conference opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for 1 pm.
