SALISBURY, MD – The fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team used a late goal by junior
Tyler White to beat host Salisbury, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Hopkins got on the board early after forcing a turnover just over the midfield line. Junior
Logan Falzarano took the ball away and then slipped a past to White. He took several touches and then found junior
Aidan Dunphy in the left corner of the box. Dunphy moved to his right and snuck a hard shot inside the bottom right corner in the ninth minute.
Sean Barwick then tied the game in the 21
st minute when he collected a loose ball in the box and scored on a shot to the right post. Sophomore
Ian Whamond nearly made put JHU back on top less than three minutes later, but his free kick from near the Blue Jay bench just missed the far post.
Graduate student
Alex Morgret made a save on a shot by Brady Young in the 49
th minute to keep the teams level. White played a great ball towards the back post, but it was cleared away by the defense in the 64
th minute. Just two minutes later, Zach Walega had to make a save on sophomore's
Jonathan Cui header from close range to keep the score tied.
White provided the game-winner in the 87
th minute. Graduate student
Tim Treinen played a long ball into the Sea Gull box, that was played by the defense. The ball came right to White at the top of the box, and he chipped a left-footed shot over the goalie.
Morgret finished with two saves in the win, while Walega made four for the Sea Gulls. The shots were even at nine apiece, while JHU had a 5-4 edge in corners.
