#9 Franklin & Marshall Tops Johns Hopkins, 1-0

BALTIMORE, MD – Ninth-ranked Franklin & Marshall rode a first-half goal to a 1-0 win over the 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team in both teams' regular season finale Saturday afternoon.

The first good chance of the game came in just the ninth minute on an Ian Whamond free kick from 30 yards out. Sophomore Jonathan Cui got a head on the ball, but it missed wide. The Blue Jays then had goals called back in the 16th minute and again in the 22nd minute due to offsides. The Diplomats got on the board in the 27th minute thanks to Shay Adamson. Nathan Schlessinger sent a long throw into the Hopkins' box and Adamson headed it inside the near post.

Freshman Jackson Shapiro had two good looks just 90 seconds apart late in the half, but both shots went wide. Cui also had two great chances in the 50th and 52nd minutes but a Sam Farrell save and a block by a defender kept the Blue Jays off the board. Junior Tyler White had a look from in-tight in the 55th minute that hit the post and just 28 seconds later, classmate Aidan Dunphy's rebound was saved by Farrell.

Hopkins outshot Franklin & Marshall, 16-6, and had a 5-1 advantage in corners. Graduate student Alex Morgret finished with a pair of saves while Farrell made six for the Diplomats.

Hopkins will be the three seed in next week's Centennial Conference Tournament. JHU will host sixth-seeded Dickinson on Tuesday, November 1. The winner will then travel to second-seeded Washington College on Friday, November 4.

Notes: Hopkins suffers its first loss of the season, snapping the Blue Jays' 16-game unbeaten streak.
