Johns Hopkins Loses a Pair of MAWPC Road Games

EMMITSBURG, MD – The Johns Hopkins water polo lost a pair of road MAWPC games as JHU lost to Bucknell and Mount St. Mary's Saturday.

The Bison jumped out to a five-goal lead and would score 14 of the game's first 15 goals en route to an 18-4 win over the Blue Jays.

In the nightcap, the host Mount scored the game's first three goals and led 4-1 with 3:12 to play in the first quarter. Freshman Gavin Brooke and junior Alastair Powers scored back-to-back six-on-five goals to pull the Blue Jays back within one after one.

Brooke and graduate student Emerson Sullivan continued the run with two goals to open the second quarter and put JHU on top 5-4. Following a timeout, Mount St. Mary's scored to tie the game with 5:11 to play in the quarter. Junior Cameron Burns then sandwiched goals around a Mount strike and it was 7-5 Blue Jays. The Mount would score twice late in the quarter to take an 8-7 lead into the break.

Mount St. Mary's came out firing in the third quarter, scoring 13 of the next 14 goals to storm out to a 21-8 lead with 3:27 to play. Freshman Daniel Palfi stemmed the tide with a pair of man-up goals, followed by two Brooke goals, including a five-meter, to account for the 21-12 final.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 15 with MAWPC road contests at Wagner and Fordham.
