Johns Hopkins went on the road and topped Ursinus (3-0) and Bryn Mawr (3-0) on Saturday.
The Ursinus Match
COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Johns Hopkins volleyball team began its two-matches-in-two-locations day with a 3-0 sweep of home-standing Ursinus (25-13, 25-13, 25-15) early Saturday afternoon.  The Blue Jays used their top hitting performance of the season to fuel the victory and improve to 10-7 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference.
Â
The Blue Jays had at least a seven-point lead by the time they hit the 15-point mark in the first and second sets and Ursinus (11-5, 1-3 CC) was never closer than that down the stretch of either set as Hopkins jumped to a 2-0 lead.
Â
A more competitive third set saw eight ties and three lead changes and the Blue Jays found themselves even at 12-12 after at
Noelle Smits kill for the Bears.Â
Eloise Estrada then bookended a quick three-point run for the Blue Jays with a pair of kills that gave them the lead for good in what eventually became the 25-15 third set victory. Hopkins closed the set with seven-point run with six of those coming off the serve of junior
Danielle Norman.
Â
The Blue Jays hit a season-high .500 (33-5-56) and had three players with seven or more kills as Norman (8 kills),
Alice Yu (7) and
Simone Adam (7) led the way.Â
Chidinma Onukwugha added five kills and five service aces to fuel the victory.
Â
Johns Hopkins held the Bears to a .067 hitting percentage (23-18-75), the third-lowest by a Hopkins opponent this season.Â
Katie Cressman had a match-high 12 kills for Ursinus.
Â
The Bryn Mawr Match
BRYN MAWR, PA – After topping Ursinus, the Blue Jays made the 25-minute drive to Bryn Mawr and closed their day with a three-set sweep of the Owls (25-16, 25-9, 25-8). The 33 total points allowed in the victory are the fewest by the Blue Jays since they allowed 27 in a three-set sweep of Manhattanville in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
Â
The Blue Jays (11-7, 6-0 CC) led just 13-12 in set one before using a 10-3 run to extend that to a 23-15 lead. Hopkins collected six kills during the spree, including two each from
Brooklyn Pater and
Alice Yu, and went on to close out the set at 25-16 on a Norman kill.
Â
There would be no drama in the second or third sets as the Blue Jays jumped out to at 15-2 lead in set two and a 17-5 lead in set three before taking the 16-point and 17-point set victories.
Â
Norman led the Blue Jays with 12 kills and added seven digs, while Adam (6 kills), Yu (6), Onukwugha (5) and Estrada (5) helped lead a balanced offensive attack for the Blue Jays.
Â
The Blue Jays held the Owls (6-10, 0-5 CC) to a -.145 hitting percentage, the lowest by a Johns Hopkins opponent since Bryn Mawr hit -.177 against the Blue Jays on September 15, 2018.
