ARLINGTON, VA – In a game that featured eight ties and five lead changes and saw neither Johns Hopkins or Marymount lead by more than six, it was the host Saints who outscored the Blue Jays 36-28 in the second half to pull away for a 56-51 victory Sunday afternoon. Marymount improves to 7-1 on the year with its fourth consecutive win while the Blue Jays drop their second straight and slip to 3-3.

Down 23-20 at the half, the Saints outscored the Blue Jays 19-13 in the third quarter to grab a 39-36 lead entering the final period. Johns Hopkins led by as many as five on four different occasions in the third quarter with the last of those coming at 36-31 on a
Kendall Dunham jumper with 2:43 remaining that made it 36-33, but the Saints scored the last eight points of the quarter to grab the 39-36 lead. A
Symantha Shackelford jumper ignited the spree and
Chandler Eddleton went 6-for-6 from the free throw line the final two minutes of the period.

The Saints never trailed in the final 10 minutes, although the Blue Jays pulled even at 45-45 and 47-47 midway through the period. A traditional three-point play by sophomore
Michaela O'Neil pulled the Blue Jays even at 45 and a
Greta Miller layup knotted the game at 47 less than a minute later, but Shackelford bookended a five-point run with two free throws and a layup to make it 52-47 with less than a minute on the clock. A
Jayden Murray layup for the Blue Jays was answered by two more Shackelford free throws with 15 seconds remaining and Shackelford closed out the victory by answering a
Natalie Mann layup with two more from the with one second remaining.

Johns Hopkins led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter as Mann scored twice in the lane and Miller added a layup to fuel a 6-0 quarter-ending run in the final 90 seconds that turned a 10-8 deficit into the 14-10 lead. The defense for both teams led the way in the second quarter as the Saints outscored the Blue Jays 10-9 in the period to account for the 23-20 halftime score. The Blue Jays had a four-point lead (16-12) early in the period and an O'Neil layup in the final seconds accounted for the three-point margin at the break. The Blue Jays led for 8:39 in the third before the Saints took the lead with the late 8-0.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Thursday, December 1 when the Blue Jays welcome Washington College to Goldfarb Gym (7 pm).
