• The Short Story: Host and sixth-ranked Stony Brook used a nine-goal run to take control of the and fuel a 16-5 win over the Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team Sunday afternoon.  

 How it Happened
• After falling behind by a goal early, Hopkins jumped on Stony Brook with four unanswered to grab a 4-1 lead by the 5:33-mark in the first. Jordan Carr scored twice in a 53-second span to turn the one-goal deficit into a one-goal lead. Madison McPherson found Carr open in the right alley, and she blew one past Charlie Campbell from seven yards out at 12:59. Following a Shelby Harrison draw win, Maeve Barker found Carr on the lefti side of the crease and she redirected the pass hockey-style to make it 2-1.
• Georgie Gorelick converted a free position shot at 7:20 to double the Blue Jays' lead. An extended possession following a Kathleen Garvey save ended with Georgia Esmond finding Harrison in front for the score and the 4-1 lead. Siobhan Rafferty ended the run with a player-up goal with just 58 seconds left in the first quarter. Rafferty's goal sparked that nine-goal Seawolves' run that spanned more than 19 minutes and saw the home team take a 10-4 lead.
• Bailey Cheetham buried a free position shot from a tough angle on the right side of the arc at 8:37 in the third to snap the Stony Brook run and cut the deficit to five. Just two minutes later, Rayna Sabella answered with a free position goal of her own, igniting a six-goal game-ending run for Stony Brook.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins falls to 3-36 all-time against Stony Brook, which hasn't lost at home since March 23, 2019.
 
Inside the Box Score
• Carr was the only Blue Jay with a multi-point outing with her career-best two goals. Esmond extended her point and assist streaks to seven games with her first quarter assist.
• Harrison finished with four draws to give her 263 for her career and four shy of tying Dene' DiMartino's program record (267).
• Garvey posted her first double-digit save performance of the season, finishing with 12 saves.
• Rafferty led a trio of multi-goal scorers with six for the Seawolves. Kailyn Hart and Elie Masera had four goals each, while Jaden Hampel had four assists and five points. Campell finished with seven saves in the cage.

• Hopkins returns to Homewood Field and opens Big Ten play on Friday, March 18 against eighth-ranked Michigan. Opening draw is slated for 2:00 pm.
