Blue Jays Drop Monday Tilt With Colby

• Score: Johns Hopkins - 7, Colby College - 12
• Records: JHU (8-7) • CC (6-0)
• Pitching Decision: W: Pletter (1-0) • L – Hartman (0-1)
• The Short Story: The Blue Jays gave up nine runs in the first three inning of Monday morning's contest with Colby, leaving them in too big of a hole to climb out of.

How it Happened
• It was a three-run first to kick things off for Colby as leadoff hitter Marcus Forrester hit an infield single to start the contest before scoring the game's first run. Forrester advanced on a wild pitch, stole third and then scored on a passed ball. With two outs, the Mules drew a pair of walks with both scoring on a two-run double from Ethan Hillenberg.
• The Jays had a solid response, getting two back in the bottom of the inning. Jack Walters led off with a walk. He was retired two batters later on a fielder's choice, giving the Jays a runner on first with two outs. Jared deFaria, Jack Pausic and Sam Frank hit three consecutive singles with Pausic and Frank's driving in runs.
• The Mules got two more in the second inning, forcing Todd Hartman from the contest after he walked the first batter of the inning. Tyler Sugrim came on to pitch for Hopkins, giving up a single and recording an out before walking the bases loaded. A passed ball brought a run home before Sugrim recorded a strikeout. Cole Palmeri singled to left, scoring another run, but Matthew Cooper gunned out the second runner at home to end the inning with JHU down 5-2.
• The Mules broke the game open with a four-run third inning, getting some extra help from the Blue Jay defense. With two on and nobody out, Clint Flippo singled to left to make it 6-2. With one out and runners on second and third, Genky Leclair brought home a run for the Mules with a sac fly to left. Forrester grounded to third, seemingly ending the inning, but a throwing error from Walters kept the inning alive. The Mules would score two more on a double from Cabot Maher to make it 9-2.
• Hopkins got one back in the bottom of the third with a leadoff double from Tripp Myers putting the Jays in position. AJ King singled through the left side to score Myers and make it 9-3.
 • After a pair of scoreless innings and strong work out of the bullpen from JHU's Jack Tarantino, the Mules put up a three-spot in the sixth. The first two batters went double, single, before a Tarantino balk brought in the first run of the inning. After recording back-to-back outs, Brady O'Brien hit an RBI double to make it 11-3. The Mules would add one more in the inning on a bases loaded walk issued by Justin Nam
 • After a strong outing in relief from Jack Pletter, the Mules turned to John Doyle in the seventh and the Jays put up a crooked number to make it interesting. Cooper drew a walk and advanced to third after a Jimmy Stevens single and an error by the Mules center fielder. Jimmy Nunez grounded out to short, but brought home Cooper to make it 12-4. With Stevens on third, Myers flew out to left, driving in a run on the sac fly. Shawn Steuerer hit a two-out pinch-hit single down the right field line and moved up to second when Eli Fahnestock was hit by a pitch. Pausic roped a double down the left field line to score both runs and make it 12-7.
