Baran Breaks School Record In 1,500 At Raleigh Relays

  • Ella Baran picked up right where she left off the indoor season. The national champion in the mile started her outdoor season by breaking the program record in the 1,500 on Friday night. Baran finished 16th out of nearly 200 runners in the event, crossing the finish line in 4:19.97. Baran breaks Annie Monagle's nine-year old record of 4:22.95. Baran also breaks Sheena Crawley of Franklin & Marshall's nine-year old conference record. 
  • Baran's teammate Diana Vizza ran a time of 4:42.85 in the 1,500.
  • In the 5,000, Alex Ross got off to a hot start. After qualifying for NCAA's in the event in 2021, Ross ran the fifth-best time in JHU women's history. The senior crossed the finish line in 16:41.14, sitting behind Baran, Frances Loeb and Hannah Oneda in program history. Sara Stephenson, competing in the event, finished in 17:01.02, starting her first outdoor season as a Blue Jay with a strong performance.
  • Gavin McElhennon opened up the outdoor season with a time of 30:55.01 in the 10,000.
