Blue Jay Bats Go Wild In Game One Of Doubleheader Split

GAME ONE
• Score: Johns Hopkins - 14, Ursinus - 2
• Records: JHU (11-9) • UC (7-13)
• Pitching Decision: W: Collins (4-1) • L – Snyder (1-3)
• The Short Story: The Blue Jays scored 14 unanswered after allowing a first inning run to defeat Ursinus 14-2 in game one on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Jakob Cantor led off the game with a single up the middle against JHU starter Kieren Collins. With one away, Cantor stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher AJ King. With two down, Tom Snipes singled to left center, scoring Cantor. Snipes was gunned down at second trying to turn it into extra bases.
• Jack Pausic continued his assault on baseballs, tying the game in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff, solo blast over the left field fence. Jared deFaria followed the homer with a walk before Dylan Whitney hit a ground-rule double to left-center. Tripp Myers was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with no outs. Snyder retired the next two batters, but issued a bases-loaded walk to King, giving the Jays the lead.
• Hopkins added three more in the third, beginning to break the game open and forcing Snyder from the game. Shawn Steuerer led off the inning with a sharply hit single to left center. Pausic followed it up with a base knock to right. After a ground out moved the runners over, Steuerer scored on a wild pitch. With two outs and Pausic on third, Snyder got the ground ball he needed to get out of the inning, but Bears second baseman Nick Halcovich threw it away, scoring Pausic and allowing Tripp Myers to reach second. James Ingram doubled down the left-field line to score Myers and give Hopkins a 5-1 lead.
• In the fourth, Pausic picked up another RBI, driving in Sam Frank with a single to right-center, giving the Jays a 6-1 lead.
• The wheels fully came off for the Bears in the fifth inning, as Hopkins put up a seven spot to make it 13-1. Ingram opened up the frame with a bunt single. Matthew Cooper singled up the middle and a single from King loaded the bags with nobody out. Frank brought in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to right center. Steuerer picked up an RBI on his third hit of the day, an RBI single through the left side. Now an 8-1 game, Pausic left the yard for the second time, this time a three-run shot. After an error extended the inning, Cooper brought in two more runs with a double down the left-field line to make it 13-1.
• Steuerer put the icing on the cake in the sixth inning, hitting his fifth homer of the season to make it 14-1.

Inside the Box Score
• The bats truly came to life for the Jays at Babb Field on Saturday afternoon. A season-best 17 hits and 14 runs were the result. Hopkins drew three walks and three hit-by-pitches as well.
• Pausic and Steuerer each had four hits for the Jays, scoring six runs and driving in seven runs. Pausic drove in five, homering twice while Steuerer hit a solo shot. Steuerer (51) holds the slight advantage in total bases over Pausic (49) for tops on the team.
• Collins earned his fourth win of the season, throwing 5.0 innings, allowing just one run and striking out five.

GAME TWO

• Pitching Decision: W: Hollander (1-2) • L – Dillard (2-3)
• The Short Story: Johns Hopkins cut the deficit to one run with a two-run shot in the eighth, but the Blue Jays fell in a pitcher's duel, 3-2.

How it Happened
• Both Kieran Hollander and Matthew Dillard cruised early with the game's first run not coming until the fifth inning. The Bears started the inning with back-to-back singles before a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tim Pyne put Ursinus up 1-0.
• In the seventh, Matteo Falcone homered to lead off the inning for the Bears, making it 2-0 in favor of Ursinus. Nick Diaz hit a one-out double and then scored on an RBI single from Pyne to make it 3-0.
• The Jays made a run in the bottom of the eighth inning as James Ingram led off the inning with a bunt single. Matthew Cooper swung at the first pitch he saw and blasted it over the wall in left to cut it to 3-2.
