GAME TWO
• Score: Johns Hopkins - 3, Swarthmore - 8
• Records: JHU (12-11) • SWAT (10-14)
• Pitching Decision: W: Webb (1-0) • L – Dillard (2-4)
• The Short Story: Five baseballs left the yard on Friday afternoon in Baltimore, but the Blue Jays were on the wrong side of a 8-3 contest with Swarthmore.Â
How it Happened
• Starting Pitchers
Matthew Dillard and Matteo Sollecito both retired the first three batters they faced in a breezy first inning before the Garnet lineup struck against Dillard. Matthew Silvestre and Paul Cooke both took the senior right-hander deep for solo shots to put Swarthmore on top 2-0 in the second inning.Â
• The Blue Jays had an answer via the long ball in the second as
Jared deFaria got on base with a one-out walk for Hopkins before
Tripp Myers left the yard to tie the contest at 2-2. Myers' homer was a slicing line drive to left center field, his fifth longball of the year. Â
• SWAT tacked on runs in the third and fourth to jump back on top and extend the lead to 4-2. In the third, the Garnet got a pair of infield singles and used strong base running to manufacture a positive opportunity. With runners on second and third, Austin Burgess grounded out to short, scoring a run to make it 3-2. In the fourth, Nate Jbara hit a blast to left center, putting the Garnet on top by a pair of runs.Â
 •
Shawn Steuerer led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a titanic blast to left, nearly nailing the video board to cut the deficit to 4-3. A single from deFaria chased the Swarthmore starter, Sollecito, but Owen Webb retired the next three batters.Â
 • Dillard's outing came to a close in the top of the sixth inning with the Garnet tacking on two more in the inning. Burgess doubled to left center to start the frame. A pair of walks loaded the bases and Jbara nearly cleared the bases with a double, scoring two as the third runner held.
Jonah Offman entered the game for Hopkins, walking his first batter, but retiring the next three to minimize the damage.Â
 • The Garnet added two more in the ninth, getting a double, a Blue Jay error and a SAC fly to help take an 8-3 victory in Baltimore.Â
