ROSEMONT, IL – The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team placed four players on the 2022 All-Big Ten teams it was announced this afternoon. Fifth-year defender
Jeanne Kachris was named to the first team, while fifth-year attacker
Shelby Harrison, junior midfielder
Madison McPherson and senior defender
Annika Meyer were named to the second team.
In addition, fifth-year midfielder
Keegan Barger was named to the sportsmanship team. The Blue Jays' four selections bring the program's total to 18 since joining the league in 2017 (no selections in 2020). Kachris and Harrison become the first players to earn All-Big Ten honors three times and the first to do so all-time since
Taylor D'Amore (2011-14).
Kachris leads the Blue Jays with a career-high 27 caused turnovers and ranks second with 31 ground balls. She also tallied her first career goal and first career assist this season. She ranks second in the Big Ten, and 27
th in the nation in caused turnovers. Kachris is seventh in JHU Division I history with 81 career caused turnovers. She is also 14
th with 123 career ground balls. She has started every game of her career and with her next start, will tie
Maggie Schneidereith's program record.
Harrison moved from midfield to attack this season and became the team's leading scorer. She has tallied a career-best 39 goals and 42 points and also leads the team in draws (56) and free position goals (17). She leads the Big Ten in free position goals and is eighth in goals and 10
th in draws. The program's all-time leader in career draws with 292, Harrison also ranks in the top-20 in goals (T-18
th • 95), free position goals (2
nd • 44) and caused turnovers (16
th • 54).
McPherson jumped into a starting role this season and has become a threat on both ends of the field. She has posted career highs in goals (28), assists (6), points (34), ground balls (27) and caused turnovers (11). She also has 28 draw controls, one shy of her career high. McPherson is second on the team in goals and is third in points, draws and ground balls and earns All-Big Ten honors for the first time in her career.
Meyer picks up her second straight All-Big Ten honor. She leads the Blue Jays in ground balls (39) and is second in caused turnovers (24). She is also fifth in the conference in both categories. A three-year starter, Meyer is 16
th in Hopkins history in career ground balls (116) and ninth in caused turnovers (69). Kachris and Meyer combine to lead a defense that ranks second in the conference and 18
th in the nation in caused turnovers per game (9.53). The Blue Jays are also fourth in the Big Ten and 24
th in the nation in scoring defense (10.59).
Barger, like Kachris, has started all 76 games in her career and will tie Schneidereith for the program record with her next start. Barger has handed out a career-high 10 assists, to go with four goals, 26 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers and 21 draws. She is third on the team in assists and is fourth in ground balls, caused turnovers and draw controls. Barger ranks in the top-20 in school history in draws (6
th • 163), ground balls (18
th • 110) and caused turnovers (8
th • 79).
Fourth-seeded Johns Hopkins (10-7) will take on top-seeded Maryland in the Big Ten semifinals on Friday at Rutgers. Opening draw at SHI Stadium is slated for 5:30 pm.
